Welcome! I still consider myself new to Oregon, and I've been here 12 years, lol. I'm still not used to the never. ending. rainy. season. :-) We do have the most gorgeous Spring time because of it, so I guess I'll just shut up! (those 50 ft Rhodies along the freeways are amazing!)
Check out Three Good Reasons Farm on Facebook. I know nothing about their farm, but they have all the breeds you're looking for, and sell chicks and hatching eggs, and will ship. They are located in Tenmile, near Roseburg. They will be at the swap.
Oh my! If my sweetie worked at a store that had chicks we'd be in BIG trouble! :-)
We are looking for 3 -- we were ok with straight run from the feed store, and hoping for 2 pullets and a cockerel (as I want fertilized eggs, eventually, and one of those nice roosters I keep hearing rumors...
There is a pdf on this page of the vendors listed at the Poultry Swap. It's interesting to see what breeds are popular in Oregon (lots of Silkies and Olive Eggers). I'm looking for Silver Laced Polish -- nada. zip. zilch. Oh well -- I'm fine with Coastal chicks, if they ever get them in...
I'm not sure -- you can find her on Facebook, Baiviews Fancy Fowl. Judging by the name, it doesn't sound like the cheapest place to get layers. She has beautiful Silkies though!!!
I have great luck with my cheapie leghorns and barred rocks from Coastal in Springfield. They've been my go-to...
I've never done shipped chicks because I just could meet the minimum, and shipping was too much for me. I am usually pacing outside of Wilco or Coastal in Springfield, waiting for their first chick orders to come in. Eugene Backyard Farmer also has good breeds.
I'm SOOO jealous at the breeds...
ME!!!! I got a warming plate brooder thingie (like an Ecoglow, but not an Ecoglow) for Christmas, and am so excited for the next batch of chicks.
There's a lady, Baiviews Fancy Fowl, outside of Veneta, who raises Silkies, and I want to get some chicks from her. Maybe some other breeds too...
I should have done "reply" to your thread -- so you'd get a notification that someone did -- otherwise our Oregon thread can be pretty quiet sometimes. But yes, I did respond. And again, welcome!
Ok, firstly, wow! You are an incredible planner -- that's the first, and best step, and you are way ahead of the game. Great job with that.
With how much land you have, and the woodsy area, I'd say go with as much predator security as you can afford. I know that hardware cloth was the most...

Hello All,
We have some chickens in need.....
The traffic is every weekend in the summer for me -- we're off of highway 58, and get a LOT of vacation traffic. We just kind of chill at home on the weekends, and then play outside during the week when the lakes, rivers, and mountains are *ours* again.
If the smoke will clear up a bit and we...
Where were you 3 months ago when I needed a broody to raise my chicks??? I've got a full coop, but I'll ask around. I've got friends who are sometimes willing to add more!
I put mine out around 6-8 weeks too, depending on the temperature outside. I'm in Oakridge, and mine usually go out in late April or early May (after being raised in our bathroom! Phew!)
