I look at broody eggs regularly to take out dead eggs. They aren't happy about it but never had one give up a nest b/c of it.

Welcome to the Okie group and BYC. When this group was much more active we had yearly chicken gatherings that were called POOPS. We haven't had a poops gathering in years.

When we have a broody we always give her extra high nutritious treat for her alone on the nest usually a boiled egg. I know it isn't "necessary" broody hens have survived for millinea but it makes us feel better and can't hurt anything.

The hatch is done, I will have pics tonight. I had 7 (of 24) zip and hatch on their own, a record for the hateful Brinsea. I used a syringe to pool water in a puddle on the plastic barrier between the heat coils/fan and the hatching area. I have 15 alive now, one is still in jeopardy. Of the...

All that will help, in OK the heat is a killer, but we really don't have to worry about the cold it doesn't get cold enough here to hurt them if they have even a modest amount of shelter, good food, and a coop that doesn't retain moisture (good ventilation)

NanaK especially an any others interested I realized I finished two quilts and didn't post pics. So here they are, my version of an Underground Railroad quilt, made w/ swap blocks from this site, and the second is a double sided Bonnie Hunter inspired quilt.

I sure hope you find him a home. I live in town and am sure my short 4 foot page wire fence would not even slow him down.
