Taneytown doesn't allow chickens!?!?!? I believe there is a very large medical (legal) cannabis grow operation there. Seems crazy that such a highly regulated and new industry is allowed in Taneytown but not chickens! Just crazy. Best of luck in your efforts!

There is this place as well: http://www.hoffmanmeats.com/services/custom-butchering-processing.html If you read the tiny print it looks like they will do 'other' animals under certain circumstances. I'm guessing if you have enough chickens they might help out.

Here is the website for Wagners in Mount Airy as well. http://www.wagnersmeats.com I use them for beef, so hopefully they can help out. How many do you have to butcher?

    MARYLAND THREAD!

I am in Mount Airy and yes, there are def snakes! The most common are huuuuuge (as in long, not thick) black snakes aka rat snakes. Every summer I find at least one trying to get into a cool nest box for eggs. That doesn't count the snakes just hanging out in the cool barn. They seem to only be...

I don't think I did. I used your analogy to show that you didn't get my point.

I just don't find an immaculate kitchen that is taken care of around the clock by a dedicated team of interns and employees to be iffy... Especially when I like the food! To each his own, though

Well they bought the stock and use the descriptions (and even pictures) from Whitmore. I've gotten a lot of chickens from that stock and been pleased. Also, the Whitmore place was immaculate and extremely well taken care of. I have no idea if Deer Run takes the same care of the chicken stock...

What kind of chickens are you looking for? I have Delaware and sex links. (I have Del Ladies and 2 Del roosters and 1 production RIR rooster. So I get either pure Dels or good egg laying sex links).

Here is a nearby breeder @Jake H - http://www.deerrunfarmmd.com/store/buy-chicks-on-farm Their chick stock came from Whitmore Farm which is where I used to get all of my chicks.

    MARYLAND THREAD!

Hello @Jake H - I've lived in B-more but wasn't into chickens then... Now in Frederick County, the most reliable place to pick up a few backyard chickens is Tractor Supply or Southern States. I'm not sure if Baltimore county has those stores (they should) but neighboring counties have them...

    MARYLAND THREAD!

That would be nice... I had some project/experiment in mind one time that needed large amounts of saw dust. I thought it would be relatively easy to locate a woodworker, saw mill, etc that would let me 'clean up' their shop floor or something, but no luck. Good luck on your hunt!

Southern States also carries shavings- there is one in Frederick and one in Mount Airy that I know of. If you are near Frederick, the Farmers Cooperative Association may carry it, but you should call first.

    MARYLAND THREAD!

I keep Delawares from Whitmore Farm in MD (out of chicken business now). As far as I know I'm one of the few around that keeps non-hatchery Dels. (I'm in Frederick County). Let me know if you want any Delawares this Spring or would like any of my culls. I like to hatch out a batch of boys in the...

Well it sounds like you've got a good mix! That's, nice bc you will be able to get a feel for which breeds you like. Plenty of folks are good at identifying breeds if you post some pics- Good luck on your new flock!

Frederick County here- hello @Emberfalls and @besorto! What kind of chickens do you all keep? I have Delawares and hybrids that I make using a production RIR over the Dels.

Anyone looking for some Delaware pullets? (Non-hatchery) They are 13.5 weeks old - I seem to have hatched out too many this year! I have a few cockerels as well but will be keeping the best looking for myself. If interested let me know- I'm in central Maryland.
