Hi Rudie Yes I got your drift thanks. Sillies are supposed to be good broodies I believe so I think I will get some of them too . My local breeder has fertile silkies eggs. Your other chickens sound nice. I'll google them! Thanks

Hello again everyone. Well, it's all been exciting. Our first hatch and 6/6 still going strong! I had the unfortunate dispatch of my sick Sussex. And now my broody is broody again only 8 weeks after her hatch! I have an indoor pen which I used for her as a brood and then used it to...

Hi again. I dispatched her. I took a view and decided it was the right choice for her. However I did learn from this and I opened her foot to see - lo and behold there was a core in there. Next time I'll be braver in the surgery. I take this as good experience - I have learned lots through...

Thanks Yorkshire coop! Well - update. she hasnt moved about her pen today and cant walk at all on her left leg. I am going to take the dispatch choice unfortunately. I think I would rather end her misery. typically she laid an egg today but I think as she is ill it has to be binned and she...

This is quite tough. My father was a butcher and had his own business. I worked for him while a teenager and killed chickens as a kid. I never thought as quite so sensitive. This hen was one of our first and she was named by the rest of my clan. So I got all prepared for a bumble foot...

Not looking so good. I removed the head of it , we'll it turned out to have no puss inside. It bled straight away so it must have been just a scab from a cut. Now I am worried it is more sinister.

Thanks for the link Yorkshire Coop. It was a good read. I started to think it may be worse ( the next ailment below in the link. Can't remember the name ) however , I have just scrubbed her foot and there is defiantly a proud scab/head. I am off to the chemist and mole country Store to

Has anyone dealt with this? I am happy to sort it but here in UK we cannot just go and buy local anesthetic or antibiotics. I can Lance it and see how it goes but there could be firing body in there which will come back. I'm going to go to my local farm supplies to see what they have.

Yes she could be overweight ! She is a big bird. No cuts or redness but she doesn't want to put weight on her left leg. I have put her in our sick bay lol and I have given her water with cider vinegar and some natural yoghurt but no food. I'll check her crop is empty in the morning Is...

Yes she is still laying and eating and drinking. Have just segregated her again so I will watch her. She seems to be in pain walking and her feet are hot. She is sitting down all the time. Yes she is panting too.

Hi everyone. I've not LinkedIn for a while . I still have a poorly Sussex hen. She is hardly walking and is breathing through her mouth. Any ideas? Her poppy bum has stayed fairly clean n I think that maybe she is just to feathery. She has been sitting more and more.

Hi All Update on my Sussex who I think is poorly. This is how she looked before I cleaned her up She seemed ok letting me deal with her. I had my daughter Erin help me, I used a towel to keep the light from her eyes and think she stayed asleep for about 5 mins. After being trimmed a...
