Internal layers?!?! I've never heard of this!! How do you know if you have it? Some are starting to get harder shells now, but they are laying in weird areas and the rest are eating the eggs now... so that will be fun to deal with. Collecting all the time I guess now and leaving ceramic eggs for...

@Minnesotanice... yes, lots of calcium available... I even have then cottage cheese as a desperate attempt of adding in more calcium. It's literally everywhere though for them. I'm currently sitting in the coop waiting for one of the culprits to lay an "egg." Poor girls, it's so hot. They are...

@naomijoy you are going to have to call them. I literally searched for 20 minutes and there is nothing in their city code. In fact, that may be one way you can keep chickens... it doesn't state either way. Contact them first though. Does anyone have any suggestions on the eggless shells? Or...

It is available at all times, plus it's in their food. I always make sure it's on the ground by their food, and their is a dish attached to the wall of oyster shell.

Hey all! It's been a while since I've been on here. I run a CSA out here, and it's been planting/prep season. Too much work, but I know many of you garden extensively and farm also- so you know the craziness. I have a question... One of my hens who started laying a few months ago suddenly...

@lalaland abut the great at the base of the feather shafts.... it's not lollipopped like eggs. It looks flat, like dirt is at the base, but not like little eggs. I just thought it was word that dirt would collect at those spots. The picture didn't show this well. They dust bath in really dry...

@erlibrd, thank you! @anyone... with egg production drop, I'm wondering if what looks like dirt or dust at the feather base is actually mites. It's on her mid back and the feathers are all little in that area. I don't see this anywhere else. I thought it was rooster issues and dirt. Any...

My chickens have dropped major in egg production the last 7+ days. From 8 eggs a day to 3 or 4. My husband is really getting frustrated. I treated them with wazine and corid as per the U's suggestion. They still haven't found any reason why my rooster or hen were sick. Had another two get sick...

We did red rangers last year. They have good flavor, but are very tough in the legs and thighs if you free range. Maybe that's the same with everything, but I'm saying really tough. We brought them to butcher and I don't think she gave them time to relax after butcher, so that doesn't help...

I've heard good things with essential oils in the coop in addition to treatment. SO..... ugh. The necropsy isn't showing lung issues!!!! :/ I should be excited, but right now I'm thinking of that $330 vet bill I paid for that rooster. I really hope it is nothing, but those birds didn't sound...

@minniechickmama wow! That's a lot of eggs and breeds! Will be excited to see pics. Brought the hen and rooster in yesterday for necropsies. They said it would give a better picture to bring him in too. Sad. It will be good to get an answer. The vet from the U was guessing MG. He was so nice...

I feel like the old stuff still works. I've used it before and it was better than nothing! Just gets a little gummy do you have to mix it better. Thanks everyone for your input and encouragement. I think I'm going to bring her in tomorrow if there is a person on staff to do the necropsy. I...

Help!!! I don't know what to do. I have a broody hen that is sick. Background: I had the rooster that was sick from Wisconsin. Sounded congested, raspy. He sounds better, but still crows funny. I used the waterer from his pen, washed it with soap and water and put it in with the broody. She...

Feeling very talented today... I think I broke two fingers today. Slammed one finger in the chicken coop door. Hurt like crazy. Throbbing went down so I went to move plants into the pop up greenhouse, then proceeded to slam the finger right next to that one in the backdoor. Going to splint...

What kind of feed do you get in askov? How's it compare with something like layena? I've been using that cause it's easy to get. We had land in askov, now it's on a contract for deed. It was crazy, one of the highest wood tick areas in the state. I remember when we first bought it, hubby...
