Also-I’m really thinking about buying purebred naked Marco hatching eggs from eBay. There’s a seller that will sell 5. I only want to break a broody hen and keep a single pullet. Would you want the others that hatch? 🙂

Hi, Pipid-I’ve been looking locally for naked necks and found a lady who breeds showgirls and silkies. Thought I’d pass along her info:

Im jealous! Our naked necks were my favorite birds! They’re so personable and curious. Unfortunately, a massacre a few month ago took them all. We’ve only got one naked neck x aracauna cross that survived. She lays humongous Olive eggs-well-used to until she molted and stopped laying for...

I think most of my 2022 pullets and my one hen are done laying for the year. Out of 10 birds, we’re lucky to get 3 eggs in 2 days. Anyone else’s birds already call it quits for the year?

The straight run chicks were unknown eggs that my 10yr old nephews class hatched. I have no idea what those birds were. The 6 chicks we bought were cream legbar, blue splash marans, welsummer, and hybrid brown egg layer.

Last fall, our flock of 8 birds (including four 9yr old birds) suffered a major massacre. We were so heartbroken to lose all our old girls! Survivor-wise, one 5yr old hen, one 4yr old hen and one roo remained. The 4yr old laid an egg this week so we think their trauma is subsiding. Long...

:) we lost several birds this year, but my urge to hatch next spring is strong. Please give me your most logical advise to convince me I don’t need more birds due to retiring in a few years !

The Indiana Dept of Agriculture responded to me within two days. They do want to be notified of unexplained healthy bird death-especially if there are any respiratory symptoms. Since there were no respiratory symptoms with our birds, and their deaths were 3-4 weeks apart, they’re not...

I just checked the DNR website and for my county the bird feeding cessation is still in place.

Thanks for the question. We’ve seen no wild bird bodies in our yard.

Hi BYCers. Our backyard flock of 11 hens and one roo have had 3 unexpected and unexplained losses in the past 10-12 weeks. Our flock ranges in age from 1.5 years to 8 years old. They’re all pets and we’ve had each one since they hatched or were day old chicks. The 3 hens that died were 1.5, 3...

The shape seems right for raccoon, but depending on the scale of the human shoe-it could be small tracks for a racoon. As I recall, aren’t raccoon tracks more in-line like cat/dog tracks instead of hops? Can’t say for sure.
