Fertile eggs shouldn't be a problem, depending on what breeds you want. I believe there is some organic feed made in Missoula (?), I think Murdoch's carries it, but I'm not certain. Snakes. I'm too high for snakes, but I bet you'll want to keep your eyes open for rattlers over there...

I have 3 hens that just turned one year old at the beginning of this month, and one nearly 8-week old. The older ones are bearded buff, non-bearded buff and bearded black. The youngster is non-bearded white. These things drive me crazy and I could easily be talked into off-loading them to...

Oh, I want Seramas! I just don't know if I have the space right now--I've got 75 chicks in the brooders now.

I have something on the order of 70 chicks coming between Ideal and Cackle so don't worry about adding to the order--my brooders will be pretty full. I bet that Horstman bird is far nicer than any of my red birds, but I'm moving away from single comb after this winter. I never had a problem...

I was asking about Urch. What breeds do you have on order and will you want to sell a couple? I've since ordered a mess of chicks from Ideal and Cackle.

I'm wondering if many of you have seen this awesome news: Chicken facility permitted to operate in Shields http://www.livingstonenterprise.com/content/chicken-facility-permitted-operate-shields?cookie_check=1 I'm excited to have custom poultry processing available in Montana! Time for me to...

I greatly prefer pea/rose/ect combs to single. I would also love some of his rose-comb leghorns. I just can't bring myself to commit to 25 straight run chicks for $7 each, I don't want to keep roosters so straight away in my head they are 12.5 $14 pullet chicks. I only have chickens for eggs...

Is anybody planning on ordering from Urch? I want some Rose-comb Rhode Island Reds and/or Buckeye but don't want to commit to a full minimum order. Anybody want to split an order with me? OR do you know of anybody in the area with good quality Buckeye chicks/hatching eggs?

We were -11F yesterday morning when we checked our thermometer. I have my birds in three different coops. I've currently got 20 birds in one coop that's a 90-year-old uninsulated shed--I'm getting around 10 eggs daily from that group (one cockerel, several are molting). I have three silkies...

I don't do anything special for the birds besides make sure they have access to water. I moved here from someplace significantly colder.

I think for a hatchery Cackle has nice looking Light Brahmas. Here is a link to their page with a video of their breeder flock: http://www.cacklehatchery.com/page68.htm My Light Brahma from Welp has terrible coloring. I'm hoping to find some nice Buffs (or get eggs from my old flock in WI)...

I've had Silver Laced Wyandotte from two sources--Welp (Privett) and Cackle. The Privett bird was massive (almost as big as my Jersey Giant), and had nice lacing. Her egg was good sized--probably a large. I have too many birds to really know what her productivity was, but I found her in the...

My favorite birds are by far the Brahmas. However, I've been very happy with the productivity of my Jersey Giant--she's not smart, but she lays a lot and is calm. Marans are also a favorite for beauty, productivity and personality.

Mine are out in the run soaking wet--I think they're happy to have some moisture, they know it will dry out and get smokey soon enough.

Hello everyone! I'm wondering about Blackhead here in MT. I'm near Livingston/Bozeman. I usually only have some hens, but got a BBW turkey with an assorted order of chicks. Soo... of course I had to order more poults. I have enough ground to pasture them separately, and our small...

Hmmm... Our new house here in MT has what I would swear is an apple tree--yet there are no signs of old apples on the ground. I wonder if that's what's going on here, or if all the deer eat them up.

I'd say we got a good 4 inches. I read that Bridger Bowl got 11" and it was still falling. I don't even pay attention to the forecast and I usually doubt the accuracy of what I see out the window.

I live essentially equidistant from both shows. Which one should I attend if I want to buy Buckeye, Chanteclers, Buff Brahma, heritage-type RIR, and FBCM (in order of importance)? I've never been to a poultry show besides midwestern county fairs--if those even count, so I'm also looking for a...

Hi Azriel! I'm so sorry I missed this! I would certainly buy a couple Blue Copper Marans! I knew there was a reason I was saving space in the coop! So far we are loving it here! My mom and several friends have been out here for several years, so I've visited the area many times (usually at...

Thanks for the info. If I can't find any LF then I certainly would be interested in bantams (and probably even if I do find LF), and I imagine I will be interested next summer so please keep me in mind. I just might have to get some eggs and/or chicks from my trio I left back in 'sconie if I...
