There is also this one http://largechickencoops.com/store/IHS-Dutch-Style-4x6-Coop-p112047472
It would be a bit better than the Quaker style coop as it could be kept outside the run easier (it wouldn’t work with the other as it would be backwards) and is a lot cheaper. It is only like a $200...
Now back to proper coops, I think I have made the most convincing progress with this coop. https://largechickencoops.com/store/IHS-Quaker-Style-4x6-Coop-p60235230
I would get a couple add ons like an extra vent, epoxy floors, and see if they could switch the sides that the door and chicken door...
If I ever win the lottery, one of the first things I am doing is creating a proper made prefab coop company. I genuinely wouldn’t care if I made a profit; only if it helps chickens.
Now if only pretty much every single prefab company could at least try to think about animal well fare I would...
She has been convinced to get a bigger coop.
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/producers-pride-villa-chicken-coop-12-chicken-capacity Look at how amazing this coop is that she found! It is so amazing! The roomy 4.4 square feet! We are definitely looking for a new coop because ours are...
Here the part that talks about run size.
But anyway, I am really considering the walk in OverEZ. It has a Dutch door with hardware cloth meaning on hot summer days I can leave it open. It still would need some modification for added ventilation. Any thoughts on that?
And thank you everyone for...
I just thought I would mention this as it is pretty important-
The run is only 6x9 feet due to local laws only allowing a maximum of 10 sq feet per bird in the run. The plan is to have the coop in the run but I don’t know how that would work.
2 Brahmas, a jersey giant, a bared rock, an Orpington, and a mystery chick.
But if they need however much space infront as it is high than that wouldn’t work
Ok thanks! I was pretty sure that was why but I wasn’t sure so that bit of reassurance is super helpful.
I am a total reptile nerd so all this is just so strange with how different everything is. This community has been super helpful and I really appreciate it. I can’t wait to stick around for...
does sleeping in the nest box cause issues?
And the pull out floor is an extra $700 or so while an epoxy floor is only about $150. Definitely don’t want the pull out. And plus I would like to be able to get into the coop for cleaning or just for health checks and don’t trust it to support my...
So the 2nd one is the one I am pretty sure is going to be the pick just because it seems like the style my family likes. As for the window, there is an add on to get it covered with hardware cloth. The same applies to the pull out tray. Is there an issue if the nest boxes are that high? Sorry if...
I have tried but was a no. I am still trying to gently nudge her into considering it but it seems every attempt just makes her more willing to abuse my chickens, or “our” according to everyone in my family (not my dad) whose knowledge of chickens ends after distinguishing them from a turkey. I...
Because my mom wants everything to be matchy-matchy and doesn’t trust the fact I could build a coop better than omlet. My dad has tried taking sense into her but she doesn’t care.
We had originally got an eglu cube for our chicks but have come to realize just how much space a chicken requires. But the issue comes with this- my mom refuses to let me build a proper coop because “premade stuff is better” 🙄. She refuses to budge even though I have tried to tell her that she...
