I am new at this game so take what I say with a big pinch of salt, but my guess is a cat carrier is too cozy and nest-like to be a good broody jail.
My set up was air and breeze all around her and she could only sit or stand on a single piece of wood on the bottom of the cage.
Yay!
Similar experience here. Tassels spent another 24 hours in jail. She went on day release yesterday and went to roost with her flock. In total I think about 90 hours in jail.
I too am waiting to see what the morning brings!
Well that did not go as expected.
She spent over 7 hours without showing any interest in her nest. She bathed, she foraged and enjoyed some yummy bugs she found, she hung out with her friends and preened. Everything seemed good apart from a few broody sounds.
Then it started to get dark and...
I am feeling cautiously optimistic. She hasn’t gone back to the nest. But she has made some broody noises and I worry she is looking for alternative nest sites!
Here is my little jailbird just daring me to lock her up again!
How is it going @MarlaMac? My young lady is pooping normally and I am pleased to say she is eating.
I was worried that she was very silent - but this morning she seemed to be chatting to the others in her normal voice.
It has been just over 48 hours in the slammer and nearly 60 hours excluded...
Thanks for posting that. I was just trying to figure out what to do.
Mine has been in her crate since early yesterday morning. The night before putting her in the crate I blocked her out of the nest and she roosted for the night nearby.
She has started eating which I am very happy to see, and...
Yes. It is inside the coop close to where everyone else roosts.
Thanks for giving me a sense of when to do a test ‘release’.
Poor girl - I do feel bad for her.
I am following along.
I just put my girl in broody jail. She is not happy with me!
Last night I locked her out of the nest and put her on the roost. But as soon as she was able she was right back on the nest so early morning I hauled her off and put her here.
I have never been through this...
