I've never kept one of the breeds you have/had, the closest I've come to doing so is a generational silkie mix that crowed at 6 months old or so. That's pretty standard for my birds. Lady Gaga crowed at 12 or so weeks, his sons crowed at around the same time. That's early for me. My standard...
I've found that most cockerels go throught a constant crowing phase, that (most) grow out of. The decibels they reach is not something I've found to be controllable
8 WEEKS?! Ummmmm that's WAY too early for me. Even Lady Gaga was older when he crowed! I'm not so sure on that hypothesis either, but doesn't hurt to theorise
Oh my gosh, that guy is HILARIOUS🤣
I too love the teen stage, but the mid-late teen stage. From 6-8 weeks and up. That's when they start looking cute again, and actually start living like
chickens
Yall are WAYYY nicer:lau . Out here they've been getting called feathered rats (no offense to any rat owner). The only ones I could say are kiiiinda cute are the serama
At that age, it'd be physically impossible for a chick to make this sound. Just because the crowing is not well defined, doesn't mean it's not a crow. It's just the best lil' man can do
I've still got the serama mix cockerels in the freezer. Gave one to a family member (can't remember how they cooked it), said it was delicious. I usually raise them up, and give them to an acquaintance who butchers them for me. Some days later, I pick them up. I've yet to be asked for one of my...
Yup. Not complaining about it, this year I won't have any teeny teeny chicks to care for and worry about during the summer, I'll just get to enjoy the good parts of juveniles getting introduced to proper chicken life
