Hello fellow Marylander! I live in Cecil County, MD!

Buff Orpingtons are a very gentle breed in my opinion. And my Austrolorp hens are sweet as pie. They actually come to me and let me scoop them right up!

I own silkies as well and they are just easy going little fluff balls, but need to be in a run or covered coop as they are easy prey with all their fluff on their heads! Anyhow, just wanted to say

Thanks to all the positive response!

Eggs are the primary use for the chickens. I have 2 children, and they will be joining 4-h to show at our county fair, so they need to be friendly.

Sounds like barred rock and austrolrop are good choices.

I will post pix of the coup I have built, and progrees with new chicks.I do have some experience growing up on a farm, but the last chicken I had was 30 years ago. amazing what you forget over time!

Anyone going to Harrisburg farm show? I have been and highly recommend going if you like chickens

Welcome !!!
I have some red sexinks. They are very sweet, in my opinion. I had barred rocks in the past- good layers, good personalities. I hear buff orps are gentle too.
