We do not inject it, but instead squirt it over treats, dried mealworms work great. I use about a mL per bird.

what is needed for a duck?

Ducks are not chickens. They need a lot more space and will not do well locked in a little coop all day. They love water and mud and turn many nice areas into mucky messes. But, they are worth it if you are willing to let them be the water fowl they are.

    Breed and sex

I agree that the brown one is a Golden 300 female. I wonder though, might the dark one be a dark Campbell drake instead? He is definitely a boy!

    Possible duck egg support

1st, get rid off the dead egg. It will only spread bacteria through those cracks. Also, stop spraying. Too much humidity is way worse than not enough. It also will encourage bacteria to get through those hairline cracks. The baby ends up sticky or too large to zip. Personally, I don’t add...

    Breed identification

It could very well be a dark Campbell as well. Time will tell.

The brooder plate makes a great place to sunbathe after swimming.

    Pool Party! Perfect baby pool.

I had three Hookbill’s hatch ten days ago (my first babies from my pair). I had purchased a marble tower last year and it came with this blow up mat to keep the marbles from rolling away. It looked like a perfect baby pool to me! They have used it for a couple of days now and are loving it...

    What do I have here??

They look like Blue Mallards to me but that is not a duckling Hoover’s hatchery (who supply Coastal Farms) sells. If they are Mallards, I believe they should each have one of their back toes missing. All domestic Mallards are required by law to have one removed to tell them from wild Mallards.

    mallard x khaki Campbell cross?

If you try it, use Khaki drakes and mallard hens. Holderread says in his book that egg laying ability seems to pass from Khaki drakes. This cross would also be sex-linked for the first cross. All the boys would have black like a mallard drake and the girls would have brown and look like...

Did one drake kill the other?

If hawks are trying to feed babies they are more likely to try and go after something they might not otherwise. It is that time of year. 🤷‍♀️

Did one drake kill the other?

That sounds like a predator attack to me. Drakes can be mean. They can pull out feathers, pinch, and scratch. One can drown the other. But, what you are describing sounds like your boy had internal bleeding from a predator attack.

    Wide stance silver appleyard

I believe that would work but you if would need to compare the labels to determine the dose. This is on Metzer’s sight:

    Wide stance silver appleyard

I would get her on Durvet’s B complex asap. They sell it at Tractor Supply as an injectable medicine for cattle. We don’t inject it though. Buy syringes too. Then, pour 1 mL over dry treats like mealworms and it give it to her. The wide stance is a symptom of Niacin deficiency. Some...

    Lavender/Lilac Genetics Clarification

Hmmm, yes, here the the US, one blue with black and sex-linked brown is lavender. Lilac is two. I think you are right that it is a European thing. I believe they call Snowy silver. This is my Lavender Swedish x Khaki mix.

    Male ducks doesn't finish mating

I used to have two drakes. Some years one was on the throne, others years, the other. I noticed that the loser often did not have a drake curl or it would be smaller than the other. I wonder if amounts of male hormones are involved in that and in your situation?

    Duck breed

The light one looks to be a Khaki Campbell. The dark one is a Dark Campbell. Btw, I suspect the dark one is a drake, the light a hen.
