Yes, concrete is easy to grow - doesn't need any water or fertilizer! Lol. Really, I was talking about the raised garden beds we're making out of concrete blocks. I took a few pics on Hubs' cell phone last week, I'll try to post them when possible. It's not done, but getting there. It's just so...
Hi everyone! Been quite awhile since I've been on site (and missed you all!). Spring has FINALLY come to MN, it was about a month late this year, such a bummer. Hubs and I have been working on our concrete garden, and we can hopefully start planting in it next weekend. We've got some seedlings...
I'm with you there, OHLD. We lived down south for a number of years, and I always longed for snow in the winter, and almost died from the heat in the summer. I love having the four seasons, and I'm very happy up north! (Although Cap does make me jealous with her great-looking young garden plants ;))
Oh, our little dwarf rabbit, "Mr. Bun" was very tame. We held him a lot, and even when we moved cross-country, he laid on my lap in the truck the whole way. When we stopped to eat, I'd just put him in his crate. He was funny, when I'd lay down by him, he would come over and lick my face for a...
I hate to say it, but rabbit-keeping sounds disgusting! I mean, we've had a few rabbits over the years, but all but one just lived out in the yard in a large, fenced-off area. The last one, lived in a big "porch", which was attached to the outside of a house we rented. It had a raised flower bed...
Rabbits, maybe? I discovered yesterday that rabbits have been chewing our fescue grass down to stubs. I know you have to trim it in the spring anyway, but the rabbits chew it so low they damage the roots. We've lost a few fescue plants in the past due to rabbits.
Do you think your apple...
We have one of those - Hubs really likes it. I find it difficult to use because it's hard on my hands. I wish I had something with a long handle that could pluck weeds from in between flowers without bothering them.
Yes, we have the same problem. Funny, I never remember them coming in the house years ago, but once we moved back to MN from out of state, we have had them coming in the house every fall. So annoying, and I have been bitten by them many times, too.
Our last frost date is also May 15th, but we plant early anyhow, just to get a jump on the growing season. Once it's warm enough in the greenhouses, we transfer our seedlings out there, and it protects them from frost.
I know what you mean about starting flowers from seed. We have been buying...
I have the same plan as you. We are building a block garden, with the blocks 2 high. I'm planning on doing all the plant maintenance sitting on the blocks. It's got to be easier on the knees that way.
My dog is so jealous, he won't allow the cats to come up and see me. He lays on the chair with me, and when the cats get too close, he chases them away. If the cats want to lay on someone, they usually jump up onto Hubs' lap.
Unfortunately, there's so many wild rabbits around here that after the snow melts in the spring, we can actually gather up their poo from certain areas on our property where they've been munching on our plants all winter. They make me so mad!
Cap, is the cat in your avatar one of yours or just...
Hubs just assembled the wheelbarrow he got me for Christmas, so it's ready to go once spring gets here. Looks nice and sturdy. I tried it out on the porch, and I think the two wheeled version will be easier for me to handle, considering my arthritic hands, and troublesome elbow that was...
"Itching to get started growing" ??? Cap, it sounds like you have had things growing all winter (which I'm insanely jealous of, by the way - lol)! We're zone 4 here. Overall, it's been a mild winter, and though they just got about a foot of snow in Minneapolis, there was a sharp line where there...
