Here is probably the worst case.
This is the only pigeon with obvious vision loss. It seems very hesitant to fly but it did see me coming.
The bottom half of the enclosure has wooden walls and a concrete floor so I'm almost sure the quail can't get to anything sharp. The top half is wire so...
The birds that I looked at have cloudy looking pupils and move their heads a lot like they're trying to get a better view of what's around them. They're also much easier to catch. Other than that loss of vision though, the bird's look fine.
I'm feeding the pigeons pigeon food and the quail game...
I noticed one of my pigeons acting odd yesterday and realized it was starting to go blind. Several quail that I keep in the bottom of the pigeon loft also seem to be going blind. I assume this is some sort of vitamin deficiency? Is it too late to treat the ones that are already going blind?
Remember how I said that I wouldn't buy anymore pigeons unless they were homers or modenas? Well I went to the Lucasville swap meet and came home with another pair of homers and a pair of modenas! I feel like there were more pigeons than there were chickens! My mother also got a pair of giant...
One has a 2020 leg band. The other doesn't have a leg band at all but I assume it's around the same age. I was dumb and forgot to ask how old they are.
The pigeon fancier says that he'll have homing pigeons available in a few weeks but the modenas aren't laying eggs yet. I'm still going to start getting the pen ready today Incase there's a flaw that I didn't notice before.
I've got awesome news: I found a pigeon fancier in my area who has modenas and homers! He hasn't told me what he has available yet but since he breeds them I'm sure he'll be able to sell some eventually! I've got other good news too: I sold some chickens and now I have a free pen that can easily...
I'll definitely be getting homers but I won't likely keep another breed unless one of the three breeds that I originally wanted happens to be for sale in my state (very unlikely since it's been two years and no sign of jacobins, capuchins, or modenas.)
So there's been a change in plans again... It's good this time though! Since I decided not to keep hatching more chickens and just keep the ones I already have for eggs and meat, I now have an empty chick pen that's inside a nice little barn! All I'll need to do is add some perches, add some...
Yeah I did actually notice that it looked more like some sort of fancy pigeon than a racer. I didn't realize that counterfeit pigeon leg bands were a thing though!
Poor thing! I don't believe it flew across the ocean but either way they shouldn't kill it! If it's that big if a concern then they can quarantine it! I mean they could also send it back to America but that's not very likely since that would cost money.
 3 feet long!? The wall that the nest Boxes will be attached to is only 4 feet long! I'll probably only have two - four nest boxes. I've begun to draw a basic plan of what I want for the loft and I keep realizing that I still need to decide on all the little details!
