I know what you're saying, one cool puff across the top is enough during the flow, and really haven't needed much more during the derth.

It helps, still have syrup and half pollen patties on NUC picked up May 4 and the 5 foundations are drawn and filled with all stages of brood and stores added another deep today and still feeding syrup. Not going to bother them for any honey this Fall. Might be sugar syrup mixed in with it any...

Too hot to get dressed. Lifted a frame of eggs, larva and capped brood into a new added deep on the NUC. Meant to do this last week but got pressed with other things. 100% drawn bottom deep, almost got caught, no capped or drawn queen cells.

Working from the back I never really gave it a thought, never really had any aggression from any of the strain I have now. Years ago had a super strong and overly aggressive hive, great producer, had to work fully suited. I went in expecting to get whacked and they never disappointed me! :lau

Here's a question for all you keepers of bees. Do you smoke your hive entrance before going in? Myself I don't. I lift the top, blow smoke under the cover, give 'em a few seconds to go down then go to work. My mentor back in the '80s said, "why smoke the entrance driving the bees up when you are...

Checkerboarding the NUC today. Eggs, capped brood and good stores. Feeling pretty smug as I haven't been whacked past 4=5 visits. Have to order a Jungle Jim Pith Helmet and head veil, jacket getting a little too warm. Hive on the right 120 +/- ready for extraction.

Swarm comes with the original Queen. Personally I would get them to their permanent hive location. Some say 2+ miles away. If not an option, the evening before the move you can put them in lock down and move them at that time to your preferred location, cut 'em loose on the 4th morning, the bees...

It's a frenzy, Holly has popped and the whole tree is humming with bees. A long commute for the crew, 20 feet, plus there is holly in the swamp. Dropped another medium on the hives, things are looking SAHweet! :celebrate

Pesky ants in the NUC feeder box. No problem, flat sticky mouse trap in the box and Diatomaceous food grade spread on ground and block hive stand. One day and they are gone, got this tip from and Old Timer on Youtube. jerryse, I AM JEALOUS! Pulling supers :thumbsup

Another miserable day, going to make up some 1:1 syrup for the NUC. With nectar and supplemental syrup they are drawing comb and expanding nicely.

Cool, wet and windy here, the crew are miserable and in a bad mood. Supers are heavy with Blue Berry nectar with Holly getting ready to bloom. Counting my chickens afore they hatch looking at roughly 140lbs honey, but will be plenty happy with what I get. Cranberry bloom after Holly but that's...

Holly trees are showing buds which come after Blue Berrys, Holly adds a little heat to the sweet. People are already asking my wife when. She tells them neither the bees or Him (me) do anything fast, but she will let them know. Stopped at the local farm, talk about Sticker Shock, 1/2 lb $9.00, 1...
