    Have you thought of making a roll out, or slide out brooder under the roosts? You might be able to access the brooder without raising your roosts too much that way.

    The best way is to plan ahead; build a brooder house in your run, or next to it, and start them outdoors. Familiarity doesn't really breed contempt, it breeds indifference. Indifferent chickens ignore new flock members, rather than picking on them.

    Did you find out why the other one died? I'm a softie and I'd love to take in adults, but I worry about bringing an illness into my flock.
