Perfect timing. The floor of the run is up to the top of the door sill and has become compacted. I'm planning to dig it out this weekend and put it in my fallow raised beds.
Oh well.
I have no idea if any of the branches are privet. I didn't add sticks that weren't totally dead, and NO WISTERIA vines. Hate those as much as privet.
I've had someone nibbling my lettuce, but it was planted by the edge of the bed so a determined rabbit might be the culprit. In the past I have had cats and squirrels digging in the beds, so I am pondering a cheap method of adding some barriers that will protect my beds. I have a short roll of...
I bought my first raised bed kit from Greene's Fence (https://greenesfence.com) and set it up in 2022. The reviews for the kits were good, and I liked that it was made of cedar. The climate here is rough on wood, so I wanted something that would last a few years.
The kit was super easy to set...

I was snitching branches from the burn pile, but many of them still had a trace of green under the bark, so I had to go looking for truly dead scraps from the edge of the woods...
I have 14" beds, and all the wood at the bottom has decomposed. They don't grow 14", I harvest at about 6". The tops I give to my flock, they LOVE them!
This popped up on my YT feed:
As this guy was building his raised bed I thought of @gtaus and his build suggestions to prevent a side blowout, such as attaching the horizontal boards inside the frame.
See? I pay attention.
:pop
My beds are 14" tall. The debris I added was about half of the depth, 7". So the rotted compost, soil, and peat moss layer on top is also 7" deep. No issues. I suspect the roots make their way through the log section if the plant needs more room.
I don't recall any serious poke from my wire fencing.
🤔🤔🤔
Now HARDWARE CLOTH is another thing! I had puncture wounds and bruising through my clothing from that fencing.
