Oh great :th lol! She's so cute though! The coop is about 4'x7' and half of it is under a big shelf, so she's making it up and out of a 4x3.5 opening. We had planned to expand the overhead storage shelf to cover rest of that coop, we just hadnt done it yet and I didnt think that tiny thing...
The bantam EE Raven can somehow fly over the top of the inner partition of the coop, it's 7 feet high!!! I thought maybe she was looking for a place to roost so I added this little bantam foot sized limb tonight. She's about 3 moths old, just a tiny thing, so I'm surprised at her vertical...
That's actually a Dark Brahma! I'm really excited, these are my first ever Brahma chicks. It's been fun to see them growing. They're pretty shy too for some reason, but the pullet is starting to get friendly. The two cockerels are still skittish.
His sire Fizz Bang our super mean yet beautiful Easter Egger rooster we had for 3 years (he went to freezer camp this spring) and his mom is one of my Black Astraulorp hens.
I hope he stays nice! He's a Fizzy baby so has the potential to be a nasty fellow. He's out of one of our 3 wonderful Black Australorps and we saw a little feather coming in with gold on his shoulders, so we'll so how colorful he gets. He also has really faint lacing on some chest feathers...
Me too! Two have muffs, one of which is extra floofy, then one is almost clean faced so not proper but still cute and I think it's a pulelt so well see how the chicks turn out (I plan to find the absolute best black Ameraucana I can to pair with them).
Yes! I love the stress relief time with the chicks and chickens brings.
Here's my hubby with his new favorite cockerel, from his favorite rooster that we had to part ways with. He's sleeping, not dead! But look at that relaxed little bugger :lau
BBS is definitely not simple, I learned that quickly 😨
I've wanted Ameraucanas for several years, so I'm really happy to finally have some!
I'm loving your thread on your Marans, those chicks are so adorable 🥰
Chonkers is my satin paint, split to chocolate with leakage rooster. He's not the most typey, but I find him totally adorable, and he's super sweet. I have only hatched out layer crosses with him, but I really want to put him over a black silkie hen I have and see if I can get some clean...
The Fizzy boys got their own pen so they can annoy eachother instead of tormenting all the pullets. They are very focused and it is all zeroed in on the ladies 🙄 I put wind breaks up after getting a few photos and they survived their first night very well!
This white breasted little bugger is...
I caught the growouts dust bathing yesterday, a fluffy pile of silkies plus a flower 🤣 they were having a great time.
Every one is growing well, enjoying the sunshine and our last week's of respite from the heat.
All cockerels!?! Oof!
I've had mixed success with my hatching baskets to keep the eggs separate and then banding the chicks. I've had a few chicks jump fence, then some manage to get their bands off the first few days so I have some likely mis-banded and some without bands at all 🙄
I know, he's so adorable and super sweet. The other cockerel is a fiesty bugger, he's always trying to get the big hens to come up to the fence and fight him when they are out. And if I let him out he goes and dances, prances, puffs up as big as possible and struts around the run of the...
I'm very happy with the Fizzy crosses! I'm really glad we hatched some, plus, there's bound to be a chick from my special Jersey in there. I know there's no way of know which would be hers, but just the chance that we are keeping a Jersey pullet makes it special ❤
I know what we'll do with...
I just realized last night our Dovey is a Davey 🥺 so, we have no purebred bantam Ameraucana pullets unless the very last one we hatched is a pullet, I can't tell for sure yet as it is too young.
Look at those pointy saddle feathers that I was obviously in denial about because I bet they've been...
So I don't know if Fizzy was homozygous or not for the blue egg gene. She does have a pea comb as do all but 1 of the 24 ish Fizzy chicks, so there's a good chance she will lay a green egg! Her mom lays a nice medium brown egg, so add the blue egg gene and she should lay a typical Easter Egger...
