These pokers are over 5ft high - I love them and plan to fill the front area with them and agapanthus so as to minimise work. I grow a lot of winter weeds for the chooks out front as well. The orange is really vibrant now that it has started drizzling. It's fun watching the birds swinging around...

30meters seems to be the longest extension cord in Australia, but dad used to join several to do welding jobs in situ.

The Shark crevice nozzle would be perfect for direct zapping of weeds. I'm sure that's similar to what this steam weeder uses. I might get one myself, it will save me lugging around a kettle of boiling water. DynaSteam weed killer

Boiling water kills pretty much anything. Add salt to it and stand back. I get bindii around the backyard and don't like to use poison. Boiling water has always worked. Anything growing in cracks out the front gets a blast as well. Those small steamers also work great at blasting weeds.

It grows wild by the local stormwater drains here. I picked some, threw it in a bucket and there is still grows! I love the peppery taste.

Beautiful Autumn days here so plenty of pruning and a bit of transplanting of agapanthus to a boarder alongside the gazebo to stop the Araucana girls from trenching all the soft soil away. Heavy branches are helping to further deter them.

What did you do in the garden today?

We've just had the most beautiful week of warm Autumn weather, so I'm not too grumbly about it raining today, with rain forecast all week. Even though we're hitting the cooler months I'm going to plant some well-rooted sweet potato slips.

Try getting your foot in the sun as much as you can. UV is the great healer. The Greeks didn't call the sun Helios for nothing. I've had great success on several wounds, some needed stitches but I sorted them with butterflies and sunlight. Even a few minutes is so worth it.

A fresh unfiltered farm honey is pretty close to being as good. Plus, honey from your local area hives contain local pollens and I'm pretty sure this benefits immunity against local allergens.

My lawn got mowed! Joy to my world because I didn't have to do it :) And those hole-digging Araucana will not be stepping foot on it after I tripped over this morning. I can't believe how many holes I had to rake soil back in to yest. I should have stuck to spoling more surface-dwelling bantams :fl

I'm also on chicken time. before I had chickens I was on dog time - walking each day as it cooled. I only see my walking mates during winter as they all stick to a 4.30p.m. schedule. I haven't changed my clocks for yonks and have no digital clock other than on the PC. The car clock doesn't...
