Harvested all the baby bok choy, some with flower stalks, and kale florets, some green onions. Slug bait and preen after weeding flower bed and pathway. Dug part of the sheep sorrel patch at the edge of another flower patch. That is hard to eradicate. So many rhizomes and easy to miss. It's...
Our seed library is in the library, but they only take seeds in labeled packages, as in seed packets. I wonder if I could start one? Not sure how to do that. Seeds, as we all know, are perishable in the wrong storage conditions.
Inflation has hit the seed market as well, don't you think? When everyone started a covid garden and got chickens, it also drove prices up, including coop building supplies.
Do you let your spinach have seeds? I was excited to harvest seeds last year, and they are growing beautifully. Did not know that there are male and female, both needed for pollination to occur. I am loving converting to an all heirloom, open pollinated garden. No need to buy seeds anymore.
Finally got the remainder of the germinated bean seeds planted yesterday, between rain showers. I had a less than 50% germination rate on one of my freshly bought packets of bean seeds. Emailed the company.
I got wet the first time I had gone outside, it was sunny and the the gusty wind brought...
Recently read in a tulip catalog that some varieties are better at coming back. Some produce too many baby bulbs, which robs the original bulb and then they peter out. Darwins are supposed to be better at it, but your experience proves otherwise in your area and garden. Squirrels are bulb...
That would be a good lavender. Weather killed my rosemary too, so bought a small one to start over.
My bok choy and choy sum is a bust. I think that spell of hot weather, or planting too late is making them all bolt before they get any size to them. Will try again in July for a fall crop.
Mine almost died this past winter, so I was able to trim off the dead branches and salvage some of it, but now it looks like a bonsai plant. Bought 3 English lavender, which is supposed to be more durable. So sad you cannot get them to survive.
I read about different species of lavender, and which does well here in our weather type. English, the one we get the essential oil from, and for culinary and aromatic uses, is the one. I found some at our local store, plus another variety. I grow and harvest the buds to flavor kombucha. One of...
I've been pregerminating my bean seeds, and have gradually planted them out. It's too cool yet to direct seed. Did the majority of them yesterday, and more popped by this morning, so got those out too. Harvested all the oregano this morning, and having DH dig out the huge patch of them so I can...
