I had this happen to two chicks. I thought it was mycobacterium but it ended up being a nutrition/absorption issue. I was feeding them game bird feed starter and it was too rich in some minerals which blocked others. I culled the biggest most beautiful cockerel and regret it deeply. Now I just...
You’ve touched on my concern here. I am wondering if there is a way to put the mineral supplement out for consumption - when needed.
I currently feed a locally milled feed with excellent results. I’m now raising breed stock and want the best for them. Wondering how to offer a supplement but not...
Hello, I think this is split wing but can’t be sure. Wanted to get feedback from the group.

I’ve read posts about shooting them with mixed reviews.how do you avoid them thrashing around or needing multiple shots?
My Tom is too big for the bushel basket.
I have my giant canning pan but it’s too shallow.
I have my crab boil pot but it’s too narrow.
Not sure how to cut down a...
This is the best idea I’ve heard yet. I tried the feed bag method and ended up holding them down like a right proper turkey murderer. They don’t die easy. It’s awful. I’d hire someone if I thought they would do it humanly.
I’m so sorry, that sounds like they are sick with blackhead disease. Red poop is a late sign. It can be on your property and chickens are sometimes carriers.
There isn’t much for successful treatment for it.
I’ve never done that. All the flocks I’ve owned for the past 40 years have always went to the coop at dark. Once in a great while I find a frantic one that jumped the fence and can’t get back in. I help them over and they run to bed.
Is there a risk of reapplying too early and missing some that hatch?
7 days is for lice and mites because that’s the life cycle. The nit hatches and becomes an adult in 6-7 days. They have to feed before laying eggs. They die when they feed on a bird treated with ivermectin.
So if you wait 10...
I’ve had good results with sulfer and diamatacious earth in the coop and dust them.
This year has been bad for them so I resorted to the ivermectine drench. I went back a week later and everyone was clear of mites or visable eggs except one guy. He was completely infested with nits. I must have...
