    Broody Vs non-broody lifespan

    I haven't noticed much of a difference. Oldest broody is about 10-11, oldest nonbroody was 9-10, but I lose ones of both groups at various ages

    Breeds with long careers

    Mine have a few issues between Mareks and a genetic bottleneck that showed up a few generations ago, but before then, yes, they were very hardy. Nowadays, they're on their way to being hardy apart from a cold intolerance I'm still fighting

    Your vet is an exception then. Most vets either won't at all or will make an appointment and charge when they don't know much about poultry or even birds in general

    I used to have a Japanese hen that adopted any chicks/teens she found. Only ever successfully brooded once, but she didn't need to be broody to adopt birds

    It depends on the disability. If it's something that will destroy their quality of life, I put them down. If it's something they can't seem to learn to cope with, I put them down. If they learn to cope with it and they act like they did before, then I generally will let them stick around.
