Hi,
I need to boil all my quail eggs, because they are too brittle for any other application and I can't avoid pieces of broken shell when I try the trick of cutting with a knife.
I see scissors online made specifically for opening quail eggs, do you have experience with these? Do they...
first dont take the termometer reading too religiously, because if you put it closer or further away form the resistance you will read different values. I would set it now at 37.5 (in the incubator), put the termometer at the egg level of the egg closer to the heat source and take a reading...
You remove the rollers 3 complete days before expected time of hatch. So, expected time (28 days) - 3 days.
For instance, ducks takes 28 days expected:
So rollers and humidity between (45% - 55%) until end of 25 days, And NO rollers and humity 65% +, between 26 (inclusive) and 28.
Note that...
Hello,
About Grit, use of grit is because sometimes there could be obstruction of the digestive system (it is rare though). I use fine sand while they are small, but for ducks what is important is to never let water run out, because their digestion requires water to push down and that is the...
The typical incubator temperatures are 37.5 or 37.7 (but they are not always calibrated). Given how premature it went, I would suggest using 37.5 next time. If they are like 1 day ahead of time its okay.
no, no, no! You can't do that, because in the last 3 days you have to increase humidity and put them on lockdown.
So during incubation humidity should be (for ducks) 45-55% as recomended by Brinsea at least. The last 3 days (25 to 28) it should go way above 65% and stay stable in lockdown...
Where in PT? Coimbra here. What kind of ducks? I have Rouen.
If they were born that early is because temperature was way too high. I had some prematures before, but never that early. Either your setting was way too high, or the incubator is not calibrated giving a false reading. Not sure how to...
Makes sense. However it seems to have extensive amounts of plain white. If I cross a common Falb fee with an Italian (I have both), would the pattern of the Italian remain and the darker grays from the falb fee disappear?
Hello,
Today, I put my first quail eggs in the incubator and I have also processed my first quail (1 bully male that had to go).
I did it dry, then I remember, would it be better to first boil some water and dip it before pulling feathers (like chicken)?
If I breed Italian x Pharaoh what do I get in terms of color?
Will one be dominant over the other?
Or will end up as something in between the 2?
Or 50 / 50% of each?
Will having male vs female of one or the other make a difference?
Yes, its just for the first week, because I have a few cages but they are all still occupied. Also only have one heating lamp available, so I need to improvise something for the first week.
Dear all, been hatching chicken and ducks but quail will be my first time.
What I have for their first days of life would be a big plastic box 3 feet x 1 foot x (1 foot 5 inches high aprox). This box would be inside home, has no top, unless I improvise some chicken wire for it.
Question 1)...
Dear all,
I bought 8 young quails today. They were bought to a simple guy who has them in his backyard. He doesn't claim to be an expert and could not provide me a lot of info. The only thing he could advance is that these are most likely native european (note: we are in Europe) with possibly...
