White Ranger from Freedom Ranger Hatchery - Results and Experiences Anyone?

An aside here: A couple of years ago i got CX birds from TSC, and then couldn't schedule processing until they were fourteen weeks of age. The ten birds had Flock raiser (20% protein) free choice their first three weeks, and then restricted to about eight hours daily, in feeders ten feet from...

It may take three years before newly planted asparagus is ready for even a small harvest. it's longer term than most veggies! And one of our dogs loved the stuff, and cleaned us out completely. Mary

Need advice safely transporting my girls to our new home

HPAI: highly pathogenic avian influenza, it's been here for two years, and with millions of poultry and many wild birds and some wild mammals dead. Now it's also involving dairy herds, at least the cattle are only mildly sick, and a very few people, also not dying. Look at the CDC's website...

Is hatchery stock less resilient than breeder stock?

I too have hatchery chicks, birds from breeders (not often!) and raise some of my own. I have chicks from hatcheries vaccinated against Marek's disease, and my own birds aren't vaccinated for that. They are the 'canaries in the coal mine', who would get sick well before any of the vaccinated...

    Is Spectracide Triazicide safe

Best to use permethrin on your clothes, and something safer if you insist on spraying the yard, rather than that product you mentioned. And that daily tick search will be necessary anyway! Here in Michigan, the MSU Veterinary path lab will test individual ticks for the five commonest diseases...

Need advice safely transporting my girls to our new home

:goodpost: Dog crates or cat crates will work, with some food on the bedding for them, and those waterers attached to the door that can be filled without opening the doors. There are transport cages designed for poultry, if that's what the airline wants. Get all your paperwork done as soon...

It's too soon to be sure about how we can bring birds to Chickenstock June 29th. If shows are cancelled, we still might be able to bring birds as requested, and keep them in our cars/ trucks, or on plastic under carriers outside. Or something. Mary

    Who has horses?

More lessons, more time in the saddle! And no horse wants to be left behind, away from his herd. Polite and horse smart riders would never leave one of their group alone, and canter off like that! Horses are smart enough to know how unsure and nervous you are, and will get more upset. Best to...

No issues here, may it stay that way! We will manage a tighter ship again, and hope to avoid disaster. Glad we don't have cattle any more, limiting visitors, and we do have many fewer wild geese this year. A very good thing! May all our critters stay healthy! Mary

MDARD released a directive (report?) today concerning dairy and commercial poultry facilities, for AI management. Look it up! And poultry shows aren't going to happen until there are no new cases for 30 days in the state. I believe that's what it says, haven't really studied this yet. :barnie...

*DEBUNKED* Toxic Levels of Lead in Black Rubber Feed Bowl Water, 30 mg/L, 2000 Times EPA Limits

There are good laboratories who do water testing, and also egg/ blood testing for poultry. our eggs went to the MSU Veterinary Path Lab in Lansing. Some eggs from urban flocks won't test well, it's the old lead paint issue. Mary

How should I move my chickens

If you are moving to another state, find out what testing or other paperwork you need, soonest. There might be issues that need to be managed, and take time to get done. Otherwise, big dog crates, water dishes offered occasionally, feed available, all should be fine. Look at cages and water/...

    Help! Found baby opossum

I admit that the little guy is actually cute. However, if you have horses, eliminate it, because horses and opossums just don't mix. Wildlife rehabbers might take it on, and have others too. And your sunflower seeds need to be in metal trash cans! Mary
