They've known him a while now, and he's brought them food before, which they accept eagerly, then they continue running off in terror.
Sprightly even hides behind me as well. 😂
For ducks who imprinted on me and met tons of people while young, they sure aren't very social... they only really like...
Why are my ducks so terrified and unhappy with my partner... enters their pen and they run into bed like bolts of lightning. I proceeded to sing them to sleep and Dougie kept one eye open while falling asleep, just to keep an eye on him.
It sounds to me like they're getting their pin feather growth and its sending a lot of blood to their wings, thus making them heavier and droopy.
Can you attach photos? The bleeding could be from pecking at the pin feathers, but its hard to know for sure what's happening without pictures for...
I don't disagree with you, but they don't need to be alone either, just a slow integration may be best. I don't think rehoming would be necessary here since OP has other birds
Supervising is great but can only realistically be for short periods of time for most people, a barrier between the...
I'm glad this goes okay for you, but it doesn't change the fact that it is dangerous. Hens who are not yet sexually mature are at fairly high risk when housed with drakes. Especially if there is only one other hen, as with OP's circumstances. It is out of ratio, and the drake could greatly harm...
Goodness me, what a roller coaster you've been going through, what a lot of heartbreak
Is Germ all better now?
River is gorgeous!
I'm so sorry for the Emus you lost
Congratulations on the new home, 16 acres is pretty good! Imagine all the birds you can fit in!!
In my opinion 7 weeks is far too young to be put out with a drake, she isn't sexually mature yet, and if he is too aggressive he could harm her badly.
Unfortunately this situation is difficult, because she is already imprinted and raised with humans, transitioning outdoors with her own kind is...
Its a holiday with a purpose, I'm meant to eventually be moving up country still, but I still know basically no one there, haven't met my SO's family or seen the area in person- so I've finally been persuaded to go up there and bite the bullet
It's so hard to do because of all Sprightly's...
I might be going on holiday for a few days but I'm so scared to leave my girls
Anyone else get mega guilt when they think about leaving their birds? Even if only for a few days...
I have a feeling its their mama and she was just overwhelmed by all the dangers and so many babies. I think now they're fewer and seeking her out, and now there's less threats, she's feeling okay taking them back. It's such a sweet ending to this disaster.
People are listening to the posters :yesss:
No one has been feeding them since, and the swans and geese have moved to the other parts of the lake!! This end is now much quieter for them.
We took them a big meal of proper food, to make up for all the bread we had to lure them with, and give them...
It looks like I might be going on holiday up-country and I feel very uneasy about leaving my girls... What if Sprightly happens to fall egg bound while I'm gone?
It's not frequent anymore but it's always a risk....
If the eggs are only a week or so into incubation, they won't be formed chicks.
It sounds like you just want to be kind, which I can understand. But an embryo in early stages of development will not feel pain. If the owner doesn't want them hatched, and they're only in the early stages of life...
Not sure what you mean? We don't have pigeon eating fish here.
I understand there's always natural threats, but my goal is to eliminate some of the unnatural disadvantages and threats to balance it out.
You know the hen I mentioned? If we did any good for the remaining babies, it's scare them towards her. After trying to catch them, they sought her out and stayed with her for the evening. She doesn't seem interested in them, but she never attacks them and let's them tag along whenever they...
Not sure, but maybe mention about why it's important not to distract/pet service dogs or dogs in training without permission
Too many people act like entitled children, from what I've heard
There's certainly a chance, but the day is almost over and I haven't heard confirmation of anyone going out
I've done my very best, I did everything the rescue people did, but single handed is simply impossible on a lake this size
