That's Rahab, and she's being protective of her chicks, so I understand. Notice she only chased him enough to establish a zone around the chicks. I suspect once he is obviously a rooster there will be a change in attitude by the hens. ;)

I got home from the auction, checked the flock, and dozed off in my recliner...I never do that during the day. The auction house is a huge metal building with lots of fans, but by midday you can feel the warmth. I think it wore me out. So, no garden work this afternoon. The coop is quieter.

Two boys sold for $6 each, two others for $3 each. That works for me. Picked last night:

When I left, about 12:30pm, they were still selling poultry, but getting towards the end.

I did not. But I kept hearing the bidder number called, so he/she was active, bought a lot. They had two Phoenix pairs for sale, beautiful. Most of the chicks and ducklings were selling for $1-$2 each, but with 6 in a lot.

Only one cockerel left, Zacchaeus. He tried to crow this morning.

Blue and Purple sold for $6 each, Dom cross and Limey sold for $3 each. Not great, but what their uncles sold for last year.

Digging out the run is on my SOON list. I'm planning on adding it to my fallow raised beds. But, not this morning, I'm at the auction.
