Thanks Jed and here's a couple more pics. We know Silkies are very hard to determine. So we'll prob just hold onto that one until it either crows or lays eggs
we think this approx 13 week old Silkie is a Cockerel but would like your opinions
The other is a Silkie with a Frizzle cross but came out with smooth feathers. What gender do you think ? It is about 14weeks of age now.
Thank you for any help :)
We have a mix breed Araucana chicken who is about 14 to 15 weeks of age. Would any of you like to help us have a guess at the gender? Thanks in advance
Thanks, yes we rather try fix the possible problem ourselves. This is the first time we've seen a discharge like this on a chick. The chick is alone with it's mother hen. No other chicks or adult chooks are near them.
No it's not blood. I had to check as when I was uploading the photos it looked like blood. The red is a reflection of the red tub we had salty water in : - )
Hi Group, This chick is about 6 days of age now and we've noticed it has a bit of discharge around it's eyes.
I read a few of your forums and gave it a bit of a clean up with warm salty water today.
But wanted to check with you all if you think it could be a more serious problem? Do we need to...
So very helpful and so very clear. Thank you. Love how calm your chooks look helping you demonstrate with the photos. Much appreciate your step by step and also the alternative ways to treat. Very helpful.
We already had some Pestene here so thought I'd try that. But yeah did read that link. Will try that next if he still seems bothered. I've been giving him the antibiotics in his water just in case it's Gout too.
We changed his food to lower protein and I've been putting the Synbiotic 180-S Probiotics in their drinking water. Just to try and boost his health a little. Thank you for the details, my daughter did say the mites could be too small to see if that's whats bothering him. He has pecked/pulled at...
Such a wealth of knowledge on here, thank you! We just had what looks like the same problem with our Belgium D'uccle - found one of his foot feathers had actually detached and there was dried up blood making him quite uncomfortable. So we gave his foot the warm salt bath and he's very happy now...
We can't see any mites on him or the other chooks. But will keep an eye out. Thank you for your reply I had wondered if it could be the scaly leg mites at first.
We are experiencing an odd time in the coop of late . . All but one of our hens are now broody, with some choosing to nest share even though the 'seats (quite obviously) taken' and the roosters which we now somehow have 3 are wandering around looking for a lady to protect or find treats for...
That does make sense, thank you for your reply. We do use a 17% protein feed for the hens and I had wondered how this might affect non-egg laying roosters . . . Hmm we are going to have to somehow separate them at peak feeding times. Will also get the local vets advice. We've had him for almost...
Hi knowledgeable chicken community,
Our beloved silky rooster has recently started walking with discomfort and looks to be in mild pain from his feet.
We checked them (see photos attached) and can see a few cracks.
Are we able to put some sort of cream/antiseptic or oil on his feet to help...
