It took allll day, but Blue mama finally brought her babies out this evening for me to see. Three Splashes and the prettiest little Blue baby, all out of Wyatt's group 🥰 Look at this gorgeous little Blue baby! 😍 In love with that color! She and baby were NOT happy with me for picking the...

A little cuteness before I head out for coop close up time. We're at 5 out of 5 of the Buck babies hatched under Splash mama, and Blue mama's last egg has externally pipped and is pretty active in there. I expect that little one won't be much longer. Since it's so late, I don't expect them to...

I don't know, but the one square in the middle in the picture of the 1-2 week olds that's peeking over the head of another one makes me giggle every time I see it 🤣 Sure looks Blue to me, and I don't see anything in those pictures that would indicate that it's a mix. Pretty baby! :love

I don't have any pictures yet, but I peeked under our two broodies in the mixed flock, the ones that have been sitting the longest. The Splash girl (with Buck eggs under her) has at least three external pips under her, I didn't look any further so as not to disturb them. The Blue girl (with...

I get the occasional with excess white like this. They're such pretty babies, but look basically like everyone else once grown. 😅 I believe it's an indication that they are E/E or E/ER rather than ER/ER or ER/eb, etc. Not 100% sure on that as it's hard to find much information on chick down...

This little one? She's either a pale Black or a dark Blue, I haven't decided yet. She looks a bit odd because she has a lot of white on her, but she's too dark for Splash still. Definitely an interesting one! One of the Blues in this batch has a lot of excess white as well, middle right in...

Seven out, one more slowpoke to go! Looking like mostly Blues with a couple Blacks in the mix. :love These four hatched yesterday afternoon to evening, so they were moved to the brooder last night. These three hatched late last night, so moved to the brooder this morning For the record...

The next batch is on the way! :wee These will be Gus III's first babies! I set more eggs from Buck's pen under a broody yesterday, planning to set some more Gus eggs under another broody today, and I have two broodies that are approaching their hatch dates with Buck and Wyatt eggs underneath...

One busy brooder! Look at those little tinies in there compared to the week-olds :love Hard to believe they were that small, too, just a week ago!

Buck's first five babies have hatched! :love All five are Blue, as expected when you cross Splash to Black, so hopefully that means those girls really are Black and not dark Blues. :fl Obviously, 5 isn't very many chicks to prove that, especially out of 6 hens, so I'll still be keeping an eye on...

Yeah, that's where I'm torn. I figure it's already there if I've got a White from them, but I'm not sure if I should put it back in the flock and really lock it in there. 🤔 I might just have to do some budgeting to see if I can get another pen put together... That's all assuming the little one...

I'm not sure, I don't really have any spare pens I could devote to them. 🤔 I'm inclined to incorporate them into my current pens if they have nice type and everything, I just don't know how people feel about recessive white being a possibility in BBS lines.

Here are the babies more fluffed up and starting to stand up! :love Not the best picture because the darker chicks blend into that background, but I'll get a better shot of them tomorrow on a light background if I have the time. I wrote about this on my other thread, but the light chick...

We've got 6 little peeps out this morning! Looks like 4 Splashes and 2 Blues! 🥰 The seventh sadly did not make it. Upon opening the end just to confirm whether or not my suspicion about it was right, I found that the little one was, in fact, in the correct position after all. I now think, since...

A Splash and a Blue are out so far :jumpy We've got 4 more external pips and just one more egg beyond that. I'm a bit concerned that last egg that hasn't pipped yet might be malpositioned, so I'm just hoping for the best on it :fl

We've got two air-breathers this morning :wee The next batch of babies is on its way! These are more Wyatt babies (hence the W on their shells). :D

Maybe! I've found that broodiness varies a lot in Cochins. I've had some that only brood very occasionally, all the way up to some that, well, would try to hatch rocks as Castiel said! 🤭 My BBS line are more on the former side, but out of all my birds I do usually get at least a few to brood...

Breeding silkied Cochin bantams to the Standard

I have girls going broody left and right here, so I've gone ahead and set eggs under a couple of them today. Both are meant to be non-keeper girls, but if they're halfways decent broodies then I suppose they could stick around... Anyway, we have the unnamed Splash girl, who I set 6 eggs from the...

Phew, I have not been keeping up here at all this year, have I? :th Some quick notes: Of the 12 eggs I mentioned in my last post from Wyatt's pen, 5 were clears. 7 are still going strong. Not sure why fertility is so low still in that pen 🤔 The following Sunday (one week ago today) I set 16...

Just to keep things updated here as well, I've set 12 more eggs from Wyatt's pen due May 5. :yesss: Also, here's a quick pic of the brooder babes from yesterday. They're starting to get their little pantaloons in now :love
