Babies!....we accidentally got 2 that were supposed to be light brahmas, but one was a very light shelled midnight majesty maran, and one was from our white leghorn/EE mix girl.
For future people wanting to know what chicks look like that are light brahma crossed with Crested cream legbars..the 2 chicks on top of the dark one. One has feathered legs and they both have a silvery tint to their stripes
We have babies! We learned that we accidentally hatched a maran egg (was really light colored, so easy mistake)
2 brahma cross, 1 maran cross and one pure legbar are out. 3 more eggs are pipped, 4 others that we're waiting to see signs.
Don't mind the reptile heat tape, apparently after being...
Update. We now get 15-20 eggs a day. We have so many eggs!
We decided to incubate some of our own eggs. We took 6 from our light brahmas and 6 from our cream legbars. The roo is a cream legbar. Today is lock down day and we have 2 pips, one of each. After week 1, only one egg had no development.
So excited. We got a whole 7 eggs today! One of the midnight marans have started laying. We got 2 blue, 3 light brown/tan, 1dark brown speckled and one green!
We've been getting eggs now for almost 20 days and today we got 4. 2 blue, one olive and one brown.
We upgraded the watering system because the 1 gallon chicken waterers kept getting knocked over and dumped out. They now have 2 18 gallon totes with 4 water cups on each placed on each side of...
Day 9 from the start of laying and this morning we had 2 eggs! Come spring/summer everyone should be laying and I might not be as excited (22 hens that should lay 250-300+ per year) lol.
But for now, we have 10 eggs in just over a week and I'm so happy!
One week and a day, we now have 7 eggs, we think it may be 3 different girls laying, definitely at least 2 different girls. Light inside the house is bad, but we have 6 olive/green eggs and today was our first blue!
We got our first egg today!
A couple of our hens have started singing, we started hearing them on Christmas eve. We struggled a bit with the wet and muddy run, but we're recommend horse stall pellets, and they worked.
The whole run is going to be 18 by 8 foot 144 square feet until I can get the section of yard fixed that will add another 15 by 30.
We have space for 14 birds in the run, but the coop will be big enough for 30 when it's done. We will be rehoming at least 5-6 birds that were not supposed to be...
A little bit more getting done, wish it would stop raining so we could get the walls started. Also stopped by the inlaws and took a couple to hatch out (white leghorn and easter egger hens to either an easter egger or bym roo)
