    From egg to chick!

My mid September chicks just barely started laying. In fact there has been exactly ONE egg so far and that was yesterday. They are all Blue Copper Marans. They all get there.....eventually.

I am so sorry. It's hard to know in advance as each is an individual. I try for smaller combed heavily feathered breeds. Poor Quin was an oopster and has a massive comb and wattle set.

I do....except my surprise rooster this year. Poor dude is frosted so will loose his points.

Current temp here -1 with 75% humidity. We drop to -10 at 8am then -19 overnight. So glad my coop is big enough to leave them locked in a few days.

Big hug. It was the right thing to do. The cross beak I had was fed wet feed every single day no matter what and hers was only mildly crossed. Those 2 had severe crossed beaks. Life would have been very challenging and quality simply wouldn't have been there. I am so sorry.

I am a no on release too. It's not humane. This is the hard part of keeping chickens. :hugs

As hard as it is I think it is severe enough to cull the chicks. It doesn't get better it only gets worse. Wet mash is much easier for them to eat but with that severity I don't know if it would be enough.

I hope you got more females than males too. Since they're a variety of breeds there's no way to know just by size. They are all super cute and I'm sure will grow up big and healthy.
