Hi
Some of the club members will be going to a show in Shawnee Alabama later this year. If you are a member of the Marans Chicken Club USA it will be announced before hand.
The silver Birchen Marans is a black bird with silver on it's hackle, saddle and wing bows. It has a red comb and...

Hi
It's good to get little ones interested in chickens. It's where my interest started with Hickity Pickity and Henny Penny. Gosh! Thats a good few years ago.

APA Approval
Hi
The black copper Marans have just been approved by the APA to be judged in the Continental Class in competition with all other approved breeds.
The 4H kids can now show their birds at all levels.
Thank you everyone who has helped this all happen, it was a great team effort...

Hi
I suppose someone might cheat but the egg color is the same now in the black copper, wheaten, blue wheaten, copper blue, blue, black, birchen, silver and gold duckwing. There would be little gain in cheating.

Hi Don
You can show eggs from the wheatens and they will be judge along side the wheaten eggs and the BC eggs along side the BC's. In some shows they also do a People's choice and they are judged by people looking at the eggs. Very often the winning eggs that people judge are...

Hi
The Marans Chicken Club is older and very active. We have just had the qualifying meet for the black coppers and will hopefully start getting approval for other colors. We have area representatives who hold egg shows at local shows where members send their eggs in to be judged...

Hi
A bird with a side sprig is not a bird you would want to breed to, it's a genetic fault. Once it's in your line it's very difficult to get out.
The APA have a Standard of Perfection book which is like a guide book of what not to breed for in your chickens and also has pictures...

You are making me a happy, happy lady and I love what I'm seeing so far! Thank you, thank you! It really is hard to find anyone that is raising blue silver duckwings in anything.
Hi
I am trying, there are a lot of aspects of the bird to get right.
Bev
It's a silver blue duckwing. This is the first time I have posted a picture so no one was more surprised than me that it worked. Let's see if I can send more. The duckwings are a work in progress at the moment.
The Marans do go broody and are excellent mothers. I have five broodies at the...

Hi Bev - I was so looking forward to being there and showing birds but I was mostly looking forward to getting to meet everyone. However, my daughter is due with her first child around that same time and I can't risk not being here. Now if I could only get over this darn pneumonia so...

Hi
The females might be nice to show if they are in good condition and fit the standard more or less, there is always going to be something that isn't right. It's that something that keeps the interest there and makes us breed for better birds.
A qualifying meet is a good oportunity...

Hi Pink
I don't think it was even brought up. This is what it says in the French standard
Four long and well separated toes with the outer one sparsely feathered.
The claws are white or horn- coloured
We are trying to set our standard to be as close to their's as possible.
