Cull hard obviously is the moral of the story. It’s true though. I definitely won’t be hatching chicks. I might put an order in kids want a few Sultans again, out of the breeds they were super friendly, but my gosh predator attractors… they will have to be penned every Top Hat gets killed, just...
Well I still need RIR cockerel, the red chick vanished… so either kids won’t tell me what happened to it or they don’t know. We can’t find it anywhere which is weird as the brooder is in my house. All the other chicks are there. So ticked off about the missing chick. I kept finding the cage top...
So far just these two…
I am hoping incubator 3 hatches an egg or two, hopefully another will hatch in 2. But with all the problems this year… these two maybe the last from #2 incubator. #2 hatched 1 Ayam that failed to thrive (it never opened it eyes… we tried feeding it with dropper… it just...
Nice birds USMC1stSgt… beautiful
So far on our eggs hatching no joy on either RIR or RIW… we will keep trying, darn incubator problems including power outage this year has not helped. We do have one breed that has hatched successfully 3 eggs the Ayams… but for what ever reason been no joy so...
Thought you guys might like to see the Buckeyes… I will get pictures of the RIW nonSOP birds another day…. But this is how the two Buckeyes are looking.
A bunch of the eggs we ordered arrived, no red eggs yet… all eggs are getting marked as to breed, date of arrival and name. Right now we have bantam D’Uccle, RIW and Ayams in the incubator in intensive care mode… trying something new with the incubation process hopefully that will improve the...
I was thinking of the following breeding plan.
1) Improve RIRs and eventually introduce Rosecomb genes. But for now quality Single Comb okay.
2) Improve RIW and get them properly Rosecombed… so annoying hatcheries are selling non SOP single combs only. Trying again to get eggs.
3) Down the...
We like the goofy NNs too. Since the NNs are not SoP we are hopefully going to do some experimental breeding. All depends on what we can raise up in the rooster department from other breeds. The mature Pullets lay pretty good. Hopefully we can improve them.
Yes, he just never really improved. Over the years we have had a chick every now and then be like this from a hatch. Anyway we shall try again, this lot of hatching eggs was a bust. Just a bummer. I am trying to get some quality RIR eggs in general now. If I find Rosecombs again great if not...
Well bugger! We have been worried about the RIR chick as he didn’t seem to be eating or drinking much and nit very active. Chicks like that in the past we have had rarely perk up… he passed despite our efforts to get him to eat and drink. RIW eggs still no action… I will reorder hatching eggs.
My two 12 Week RIR, top bird has white in her wing feathers, bottom bird no white.
One thing I noticed photographing the chicks today is that the RIR chick from the hatching egg has clearly yellow legs compared to the hatchery chicks of breeds also suppose to have yellow legs… not saying the...
I will be extremely lucky to get a RIW I think… I chucked all the eggs I thought were no good (cracked them all and yep no good), now just a few eggs in lock down.
I’ve got signs of life!
RIR hatching!
This is most likely going to be my only one, but still praying a second one pips. In addition today is lock down day for the RIW heritage eggs… one egg is stuck in that incubator (candled it, it has a hairline crack, never did anything). The white incubator...
