It's hard when your best friends decline, but the years of happiness they give to you before they go make it all worth while. I hope her passing is gentle and her last days as pleasant as possible.
Oh. I ended up holding him like a turkey, haha! He's not a small bird, I should weigh him some time. On the other hand I am a rather small human, most twelve year olds are bigger than me, lol.
I am proud to say that I did not drop him and embarrass him in front of his girls. :D He talked to me...
Tried to practice the chicken exam instructions on my Roo today since he's the least flighty of my birds....
My hands are too small! I couldn't fit his thighs between my fingers.
I will have to practice with the girls I guess, lol.
Ah. Hmm, well, I don't need to and I suppose it wouldn't really be a new breed in the real world sense as I have no intention of marketing them or even getting them recognized. But I do want to produce consistent layers and consistently large meat birds for my own and my families use. I enjoy...

I've got one that has me completely baffled! Want a crack at it before Tara gates here ;) ?
The one on the right. Don't even know what I'm looking at here! What is that color?
Could you post pictures and instructions of how to handle and assess a bird or direct me to such. This is something I need to learn. I don't have a particular breed now but I will be developing a couple of lines of birds essentially from scratch and I need to be able to assess them in order to...
I'm new to chicken genetics and was told this was the place to go to learn more. Would anybody be game for helping me identify the color genes (maybe breed genes later when the chicks get older) in my mutt chicks.
My MIL and I take in unwanted chickens ( most of them stay with her since her...
