The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Early crowing comes with a cost: more hormones. Which is not something I personally want! LOL.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

The ugly stage is sometimes when they start getting cute! My chicks are at the ugly/cute stage. There is one cockerel that is adorable. He is Ruby's chick and he takes after her a lot in his appearance. And personality. He is constantly trying to get on my hand, shoulder, head, or just wanting pets.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

That is amazing! And cute! And horrifying if you have to listen to a cockerel crowing for almost six weeks straight in your house!

Bantams would not be good for that, then. Too small. Quartz (the dam) is about six inches tall and Jasper (the sire) is a little bit taller than that. I doubt their sons will be food-sized! What do you do with excess bantam cockerels? If you ever get those. No. Just no.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I have about seven or six more cockerels so I will be waiting for those to crow too. The lovely surprises of hatching . . .

Cute! It is fun watching them fly around. Bantams love it. How many weeks old are they currently? Mine are about three weeks and I already have two cockerels crowing. 🤦‍♀️

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

It is always the little ones who think they are so tough! In my Backyard Flock, April is the only bantam hen but the large fowl hens are terrified of her so it works out well.

Aw, so cute! How do you keep the Tsouloufates from picking on the Seramas?

    That sounds disgusting, LOL.

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I can't stop staring at the Serama chicks, they are so cute and tiny! But, ugh, that brings back memories. Why do the chicks always want to poop on top of the brooder plate? 🙄

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I think almost all of my chicks have had pasty butt because almost all of my chickens come from Tractor Supply. I don't know what is wrong with what they feed the chicks, but their chicks are going to get pasty butt! Or already have it by the time they arrive. The chicks I hatched from my own...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Almost all of my chicks eventually have pasty butt. I make sure they have water before I even give them food, but they still get pasty butt. I think it is a really common thing for chicks to have.

I knew chickens love to eat chicken but that is certainly a sight that I can only imagine!

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I wouldn't be able to eat the chickens that I have raised, I would prefer re-homing any of the extra cockerels. That's just how I am, which I probably shouldn't be like that. Chicken tastes gross to me anyways, I see so many people saying it tastes good but I have to disagree!

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Wouldn't it be good if you could tell them to decide female? 🤣

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

I will answer this question as well! This is actually my first time breeding my own chickens for various reasons. Our second rooster we ever kept was aggressive to humans and over-bred the hens. I did not want another rooster like him, so when he died, I started researching which breeds would...

I have some pictures, I will show them when I have time!

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

Excuse me for not following along much, but I hope the chicks grow strong and healthy! Hatching is such a fun adventure, especially when they are from your own chickens-you know their parents and it is funny when you make observations of them that you can relate back to something their parents...

The tiny serama; a Hatching adventure

That is hilarious! I love male chickens because of their antics, as long as those said antics are not too hormonal. I have a Cochin Bantam rooster that has had a deformed leg since he has hatched, which likely came from the fact that they took far too long to ship the bantam surprise hatching...

Sixty hours without power?! At that point, I would be sitting on them myself. I am totally okay, everyone . . .
