I'll do that. Thanks!
I checked the eggs. There were chicks but the eggs were ice cold so I threw them out. She hasn't been sitting on them at all. Her attention was completely on her babies. Sad in a way.
I moved the 4 remaining eggs under Mama but when I checked on her about 30 minutes later she wasn't actually sitting on them. Maybe she's not interested anymore. Not sure what to do now.
We have babies!!!!!! Hooray!!!! So far 4. I put out a bit of water and introduced them to it along with some food. I'll keep checking in on them. I'm thrilled!
It was right after Easter when I let her start sitting on the eggs. She had 4 at that time. It wasn't long, like a couple of days that she ended up with 8 eggs. So any day now I would think. I didn't candle any eggs, I was afraid of disturbing her too much. Probably should have tho. It's been 26...
Ok, nothing as of yet. I'll give her a couple more days.
How do I cut his nails? Also she's the lowest rank. I've noticed my Windote pecks at her roo. Of course she pecks at most of my girls. They tolerate her.
Nothing....I'm out here now sitting. So disappointing there are no babies, no little peeps . I thought for sure by now there would be something. 😔
Olive Oil still Loves Popeye even tho he's made her back raw. So I will do nothing. She's pretty sassy but loves him to a fault. 😂
Thanks to everyone...
I do have a odd question, I have a buff roo and a buff hen, it appears that he's mating with her frequently. Her back feathers are gone and skin is showing now. I had a apron on her for over a month and took it off cuz I wondered how will her feathers grow back if they're covered all the time...
I have listened to them and their strange sounds and try to associate with what's going on around them. It's quite interesting and fun at the same time. I love the egg song, each one is a bit different for sure!
Well, that's so sweet, the cooing part!
Yes, the suspense is high. I'm anxious for her. She's gone broody before I had a Roo and now is her time. I believe she will be a good mama.
I may be wrong on the date. I was taking every egg before Easter so we could use them for our Easter Breakfast at church. After that I started letting her sit on them. Within a couple of days there were 8 eggs under her. Not all hers. So I could be a couple days off. I'll keep checking.
Went out...
Sorry for the delay in update. Nothing today. She's calm and cooing. I'll go check again in the morning before church then again after church when I can sit with her.
I was hoping you answered. I live 5 miles away from the farm and I'm walking out the door now to go check. I was mistaken it is day 20. So I'm going to check on her.
I'll update when I get out there and see. I'm quite anxious as this will be my first time doing this. I've never let my girls...
My nesting boxes are old milk crates. I have a Broody Hen sitting on 8 eggs and I'm afraid that it's going to be too small for the hatching process. I do have another coop smaller but would be better but I'm afraid to move her and the eggs. It all snuck up on me as life happens. It's day 21 now...
