Would button quail work?

I have coturnix quail in our finch flight cages right now but am working on a big pen just for them as they are too messy in with the finches and they need a bit more room anyway.

As the finches are little wasters of seed I was thinking of getting some button quail to live in with the finches to eat up the wasted seed.

Will button quail live in small numbers like 5 or 6 or will they only live in pairs? And if they only live in pairs can it be male male / female female pairs or MUST it be a breeding pair?

Would any quail work for cleaning up seeds in a flight cage?

With their own feed too of course

I love the coturnix in there but they are just too big and messy and every now and then launch themselves sky ward which is MOST alarming for me

Have to say the finches dont seem to mind though.

Button quail are great for aviaries. They are much smaller than coturnix and are not as messy. They do have a superman startle and fly up and are not as tame as Coturnix. I sell hatching eggs if you are interested.

I have two flight cages, one is 8ft by 8ft and the other is 7 ft by 5ft. How many would live in those? Breeding pairs only - one in each cage (the cages are connected) - or a small group of single sex birds?

My problem with eggs is that if they only live in pairs what to do with the extra?

Hmmmmmm eggs? My egghatchaholism is beginning to act up

Those are large pens. You could have more than one pair for each pen. Now, you can add shrubbery and hideout places so the buttons can establish their territories.

Yeppers, lots of logs in one and lots of pots and vines in the other. One is sand bottomed - needing cleaning out and replacing with all the rain - and the other is all oak leaf mulch.

So two pairs per pen perhaps?
