It all started on a rainy day in February 2008. That's when my husband and I ventured to a yard and garden show in Portland, OR to get some inspiration for a deck addition we wanted to do in the coming summer. What happened instead was, we stopped by one little nursery booth...
How red is his/ her comb and wattles? At 18 weeks I would think a he would be pretty red, but in your photos they look kind of pinkish still.
I had a BA roo who was totally red by 8 weeks AND crowing.
I am in the same boat - checking everyday, morning and night for my Delaware's first egg. She is 24 or 25 weeks now, but has had a red comb and wattles for at least a month. All the signs are there, she's doing the squat, makin' noise, and definitely pushing the bedding around in the nesting...

Is Frances the one standing? If so my Marilyn looks exactly like her! Was she kind of narrow from the top view? From the side Marilyn looks nice and full, but from the top and back I think she looks like she still has some filling out to do. I am still feeding her chick feed since she...
Their run is fenced off from the rest of the yard. They free range, but only in the fenced off area which is mostly covered by pea gravel as well. I've checked every possible hiding place for eggs. Could heat affect her? It is sually pretty cool here, but this week we are in the 90s. The entire...
She's defintely a she (I had a roo with her up until last week that was just a week younger than her and I could defintely tell the difference. He was tring to mount her and she would make quite a fuss when he would do this. Plus size-wise- feet, legs, feathers, waddles, comb - everything on her...
I have a 22+/- week old Delaware pullet whose comb and wattles have been bright red for 3 or 4 weeks now. I know that this is one of the signs that a pullet will start laying soon. Is it unusual to have to wait this long once they turn red for something to happen? Is there anything else I need...
Boris the Buff
18 weeks and absolutely hilarious. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of trying to rehome him because his beautiful crow is just too loud and too frequent for the somewhat residential area I live in:( I've sure enjoyed watching him grow over the past 18 weeks though!
Well, archmichelle is part of my email address. I wish I would have been more creative and thought of something chicken-esque, but I just went with what I use everywhere else.
Oh, and I'm an architect so that's where arch comes from:P
I started getting tattoos ten years ago - at first it was an expression of my rebellion. I think it has transformed into something much more profound for me over the years though. These are my tattoos:
I got all three of these done at different times, but they are meant to appear to be a single...
I found out about the Chickenstock too late:( I don't know if I could have made it anyway - I was at agility class with my dog all afternoon.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a home for this guy? His crowing is becoming too frequent for me to handle living in a somewhat...
I have a gorgeous BO rooster that I need to find a good home for. He is about 18 weeks now, and I have raised him from a few days old chick. He is free to a good home, but I don't want him to be eaten. He has a great temperment and I think he would make a wonderful addition to anyone's flock...
Anyone want a BO roo?
I have an 18 week old Buff Orpington rooster that I need to find a new home for. I'm in Milwaukie, OR, and if there is anyone close enough that would like a beautiful roo to add to their flock, he could be yours. I have raised him from a few days old chick (he's my...
