    Hamburg thread!

So I just got some Silver Pencilled Hamburgs, (at least I think they are, I got them at tractor supply) and I was wondering what you can tell me about the breed. I have chickens and I've been raising them for years, but I had never even heard of these. So now I would like to know what people...

So I Went to Tractor Supply and...

Are silver pencilled hamburgs bantams? The two are supposed to be bantams. I suppose this is what I get for buying chicks at Tractor Supply. Oh I can't stand not knowing!

So I Went to Tractor Supply and...

I bought six of their assorted bantams... I know I shouldn't have but they were overcrowded and needed me. lol Anyways I have had them for a couple of weeks now and I have a bit of a problem guessing the breed. I thought this was a buff brahma, but it doesn't appear to have the right comb...

    Frizzle thread

Also, here's a look at my frazzle, Bob. I took this picture just this week and I have been lucky enough for him to be as well feathered as he is. I'm hoping this doesn't change as he gets older.

    Frizzle thread

Hello, I don't know where you could find one, but I can help you as to what a frazzle is. Frazzles, sometimes referred to as "curlies," are a result of breeding to frizzled birds together. Frazzles tend to have brittle feathers and most don't look very healthy. Frazzles are also claimed to...

    all who are hatching quail

I think I'm going to buy fifty this summer. I bought 25 last summer and that was not nearly enough. I bought them for meat, eggs, and I wanted to try hatching them. I did okay the first batch, but the second time around none of them hatched and I haven't gotten an egg since November.

When to band a male pig?

You don't band them, you have to cut them out. It's totally normal for them to be close to his body and most people castrate them long before six months. I've never had to castrate them personally. Normally my neighbor does it for me and I hold the legs out.

    Frizzle thread

Okay so I haven't been able to breed my curly yet, but when the time comes I was wondering if there's a way I can keep him from getting his feathers pulled out. As it is, he is by himself and my two free range chickens (the only two who are more like dogs than chickens) socialize with him...

    sebright thread

Those are some exquisite birds. I wonder if you could get better lacing with a golden laced polish. The lacing on your mixes seems sparse, but I like how it looks on the bird in picture 2. Nevertheless they look lovely with that proud demeanor to them.

    Frizzle thread

That's horrible when people take advantage of others. It's not fair that they would put you in that kind of situation. I hope you find someone with some nice silkie pullets. Maybe you can go on a thread for New Hampshire and find someone local with silkies or go on the silkie thread.

    Frizzle thread

Yeah I just wanted to confirm they were cochins and had feathered feet. (I should have just asked instead of having you go through the trouble) I'm sorry as I must say I believe they are roosters too. If you go back to him he should give you your money back. Also the information I posted earlier...

other birds that don't fly to raise in back yard with pekin ducks

I don't know much about ducks, but I would suggest cochins. They're big heavy birds and they're very sweet tempered. I would like to tell you silkies, but silkies have a high chance of dying if they get in a tub or wherever you keep your water. They just get too wet and can get hypothermia.

    Frizzle thread

Okay so a frazzle is the offspring of two frizzles and they tend to be more brittle feathered. Sizzles are a bit different than a frizzled silkie. Sizzles, I believe, are a breed of their own, while a frizzled silkie appears to be what you have. Frizzled silkies are silkies that were bred with a...

Don't touch/handle roo for first year?

Oh I'm sorry I wasn't either. Although after reading my post I was a bit rude, sorry about that.
