Not to mention, there is no such thing as show quality eggs... Just because the parents win shows, does not mean they produce 100% show quality eggs. Silkies have so many hidden colors, it is difficult to predict what you will get. For instance: I purchased 12 eggs from 3000 miles away...

    Color breeding question

They are silkies. So it takes both parents to create a partridge? I have a blue partridge hen. Bred her to my blue roo. Got some partridge babies, does that mean my roo caries the Partridge Gene?

It has been. But I have 3 blacks from FL and 1 odd ball. . Chick #1 I helped a bit more and it was able to pull it's head out of the shell. It was malpositioned with head between it's feet. So glad I helped it. I left it in the shell with it's head out. It looked like it might die from...

Wish I had time to take a picture, but got up to check chicks as I am slowly helping the 1st pip out. About 3 hours ago I saw one had started to zip. Let it be and went back to bed. Got up now and the poor thing ad zipped, but couldn't get it's head or but out of the shell because of the...

I believe naked necks and Showgirls are two different types. The show Girls have an extra line of feathers on their neck like a feather boa. Don't quote me though I'm no expert, but I'm learning a lot fairly quick.

Yay, the 2nd pip from Florida hatched. It is black, and healthy. As much as I can see for now. Still no change in the first pip from last night. It had been 24 hours and I couldn't even see if it was breathing, so I took it out of the incubator to take a look since there's no other external...

    Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

Oh my luck! The single remaining egg from Mississippi hatched. I should be happy.... I ordered 8 black eggs. She asked if I would take another color if she didn't have enough. I said blue/splash. Received 8 black & 1 marked BS. None of the blacks even started to develop. All 8 we're...
