My 5ish year old bantam hen started to seem to lose her voice about a week ago - couldn't seem to get any sound out. Then one day she fell over once, so I checked her and couldn't find anything wrong. The next morning I found her on the floor on her side, as if her right leg hurt or just had...
Forgot to mention, she was trying to cluck as I picked her up but just made a louder wheezy sound. Something to do with her throat? But that couldn't cause a balance problem could it? She's perching fine though, it's not bad at the moment.
Thanks for your reply, I've just been out to check her. No lumps, vent area is fine + clean, no nasal discharge, breath smells fine, feet and legs perfect. Couldn't feel any evidence of mites but couldn't see because it's dark and I didn't want to blind her with my torch. The only thing was...
I have a 5-6ish year old Wyandotte hen. About a week ago she seemed to lose her voice - making quiet wheezy noises instead of usual chirps (but not actually wheezing).
Now she's walking very slowly as if her legs are giving out. Doesn't eat but touches her beak to the food as if she can't...
I found my year old Pekin bantam dead in her nest today, on her side but with no sign of anything wrong, except her crop was empty. One side of her head was a bit red with less feathers than the other - is it possible that one hard blow to the head in the right place could have killed her?
How...
A bit late, but flockwatcher, thank you! That's it. She's been laying eggs with very weak shells too, so that would match. Protein and calcium. Thanks!
Do you mean ducks or chickens? I have two little Pekin bantams which we got last Autumn, one mille fleur and one columbian buff. They're brilliant! :D The mille fleur is the sweetest chicken I've ever known (she's the one in my avatar) and the columbian buff is so fluffy! They'd only just...
Black is a Calder Ranger. We've had her for about a year now and I think she's about 4 years old. She's always had a slightly redder abdomen than the others but it didn't seem to irritate her or be any problem. Recently it's been slightly swollen and redder than usual, looks painful but...
I haven't read the other posts, but if no one else has said this she could be egg bound. If she's sitting on the nest all the time she's trying to get the egg out. Massage her abdomen and rear end and see if there's an egg-shaped lump. Sit her in some warm water and massage it.
