Just finishing old conversations so others in the future may be able to learn something. This sweet girl died not too longer after. It took a little while to die. I never did figure out what the problem was. Just came out one morning and she'd died in the night. She was a real sweetheart and...
I wanted to come back here and follow up to say that yes she was molting - it was a long nasty molting and she was so strange looking being frizzled. I've spent so much time on BYC learning that I know how important it is to finish a conversation here so that others in the future learn.
Also...
oh I can't resist sharing also: we separately have a batch of week old babies from a silkie rooster and red frizzle momma. Only 3 made it but they're adorable, they look like black triplets. So far it looks like they're frizzes too! 1 is clear, the others feathers are just starting to pop in and...
I completely agree with the above. Chicks ARE tougher than we'd first think. I learned that after seeing my girls endure our harsh Rockies winters with no heat lamp just fine.
Currently I have a batch of chicks outside. They range from maybe less than a week to a little older, some have...
Neat. Any pics of what some of the mixes loom like or what to expect? I like heavy birds and have always wanted Orpingtons so would be happy with anything that looks like an Orpington, or Cochin, or any of the other heavy birds. Also like friendly girls. We keep them mostly as pets and because...
Thank you - fortunately she is not dead :) but just her feathers never weren't thawed out this morning, which was unusual from my experience with non-silkies. Those are really good points. Thank you! Never a dull moment huh? ...
This is a question about a concern about the condition I found my silky in this morning after our first cold weather.
Yesterday we got our first good snow here in our part of Utah, and it got pretty cold. In the late-dusk evening I went out to close the coop door. Usually my silky and the two...
Here is a 1 minute video of her (calling her Poppy now) sitting on her clutch having just adjusted/rotated her eggs - she went broody on Sunday 48 hours ago! - for anyone interested. Very proud of her! Since we got her 1 month ago, I am *hoping* some of her eggs are still fertilized and we might...
After lots of time researching and so on, I believe she is in fact a frizzle/frizzle, AKA "frazzle" AKA "extreme frizzle" in addition to any age and moulting etc.
When I found this article on http://chickensetc.blogspot.com I was like "oh my gosh, this looks EXACTLY like mine in all of her...
Yes she looks ... frumpy, and I don't think it's molting because it's been the exact same for over a month. I appreciate the feedback. She's so dang funny I chuckle when I see her. And she's so dang serious when she does her little chicken squat. I'm going to take a quick video of her crazy...
You all are wonderful, I am betting that we're there now in terms of it being one of those: frizzle/frizzle or frizzle/naked neck. I saw a naked neck when I picked them up and that was my only theory - first time seeing one, and I'm not going to lie it shocked me and sort of freaked me out...
lol you guys are too nice! I wish she could hear your kindness :) bokbok!
I've looked at lots of pics of red frizzle hens, I've never seen any like this. I'd think if it was defeathering from a roo it'd be like we usually see - bald spots with normal skin beneath. The difference here is her...
