A horrible thing happened tonight, need help

@Iomine Thank you. I was going to continue using the actuator but run a string to the door with a couple of pulleys (since I'll hang the door on the outside wall this time and need to bring the line through the wall smoothly.) Looks like the door will arrive today! It was supposed to come on...

A horrible thing happened tonight, need help

Thank you so much @AgnesGray , @3KillerBs and @Mrs K You helped a lot, and I've now ordered the chicken guard door. I feel confident it should work. I should have gotten one in the first place but was being cheap :(

A horrible thing happened tonight, need help

I made it myself with a linear actuator and plywood. I think she was already asleep and didn't wake up or know what was happening. Yes, she died :( I'd love to know if these other types of doors are safe in such situations?

A horrible thing happened tonight, need help

I've had chickens for about 11 years now, but I'm getting old and wanted to automate the door. I got it working in testing, so I set it this morning and forgot to be home in time to be sure nothing bad happened, and it did. One of my hens got squished. I'm beyond horrified. She likes to sit...

    American serama thread!

Hi everyone! I'm never here because life is so busy, but I want to share an experience we just had ;) Ok, so we decided to hatch some more egg layers from Trader Joe's (hubby makes me do it, promises to rehome the boys, LOL) Anyway, I had broody seramas (little buggers were broody 80% of...

That's pretty cool, misfitmorgan, I didn't know whole foods did that! As Steemroo said, our seramas turned on their chicks, yet they were upset when I took them out of their coop. I don't know what's in their heads, LOL. But the boy was getting a bloody butt and both of them had lots of...

Hatching store bought eggs~ Whole Foods vs. Trader Joes

Wow, Omelet's egg is really cool! She's worth having just for those, LOL! I like her! If you can't slaughter, don't even try a turkey! They get so huge! LOL. Just saying... LOL. We have a batch of Trader Joe eggs in the incubator right now. I dropped one, so we started with 11. I...

Hatching store bought eggs~ Whole Foods vs. Trader Joes

But the fun of this is that you can get eggs from a grocery store and hatch them at home ;) Anyway, we have 8 eggs developing out of 11. The others started, but died. (the 12th, I dropped while choosing them at Trader Joe's, LOL. They also had a rough start as I gave them to my chickens...

Ok, so Steemroo is my hubby, and he made me do it this way again! He promises that he'll be the one to rehome the boys, I just hope luck will be on our side this time and we won't end up with most of them being boys because we have 9 developing! Yikes, can you imagine 9 cockerels to rehome? I...
