    Incubating Eggs from Road-side Stall?

Locked down today with 14 eggs at 65% humidity. 12 I know for sure are developing, 2 were removed, one being from the road side stand which ended up being a quitter (blood ring, no notable embryo). The 4 shipped eggs are looking good for the most part. One does have a huge air cell, about 1/3...

Hello please help me with my eggs

As the days progress you stop being able to see all the veins as the chick fills the egg. I wish I could say that is the case but you should still be able to see veins up to around day 14, for instance my eggs are on day 17 and I can still see veins but only near the tip of the egg in the...

    Half dark half light

How many days in? With that transparent of an egg shell I would think you'd be able to see the veins and embryo fairly easily.

6-week old chick lost a leg?!

Pictures of the leg? If it is a fresh wound then I would guess it either a weasel or rat. It wouldn't take much to pull a chick's leg off through a wire bottom or gap through a wooden floor.

    First time emu egg incubation

27 days is far to early for emus to hatch. I would say the egg is bad and starting to rot inside, hence the foamy goop coming out of the crack. Give it a sniff, if it's nasty smelling then you'll know it is a bad egg. If there are no other eggs incubating with this one and it doesn't smell...

    Mother's day hatch-a-long

I've got 8 more days and 10 for-sure active chicks developing plus a few I can't see through so left them in. Out of 34 eggs I removed 5 quitters (all shipped eggs) and something like 18ish blanks. I’ll do an official count when I lock them down.

    Really bad feathers on chick

Is there any way the chick in question could just be a frizzle?

    Incubating Eggs from Road-side Stall?

10 more days! I've just finished candling and sorting out all the quitters/duds. 10 for sure are kicking around inside and I left 4 others that I just can't tell. 4 of the 10 shipped eggs are still going, at least 4 were quitters after about a week in. Of the road side stall eggs that were not...

    Incubating Eggs from Road-side Stall?

Humidity is staying at a stable 40ish% and temp is between 99.5 and 100. I've been tilting the incubator several times a day. It's been a week or so now and admittedly I've been candling them since day 2. I saw development as early as 3 days! Looks like at least 8/10 of the large breed shipped...

    Mother's day hatch-a-long

That's okay, I've been checking mine ever since day 2 and after 5 days I can definitely see some development in several of them. I did remove a couple duds and will be doing so again soon but those darker eggs are keeping me guessing!

    Too many deformities?

2% deformities isn't great but really isn't bad either, natural selection will weed out the weaker ones as you've seen. Sad but fascinating to see some of the more developed chicks like that as most would normally die well before they start looking like chicks. I hope you preserve it! Sounds...

    Two black dots

If there's a blood ring and you are sure it had died then crack it open and see, that's the only for-sure way to know if it was a twin.

Rebuilding an Old Coop for New Birds, Need Pointers

I've settled on 5ft fencing, figured 150ft for 110$ was pretty good and it should be here in a few more days. The door into the coop will have a screen window (hardware cloth). So far the roof and flooring has been replaced, I just added a coating of water sealant to the floor as the wood is...

Eggs moving forward on a rolls type incubator

I noticed the same problem in my horizontal incubator with the rollers. At one point there was an egg being turned vertically and I found it sitting straight up! Placing them pointy end to pointy end should do the trick, haven't had a chance to try it myself though.

4 week old chick gender guesses? (Plus results as they mature)

4 weeks old today! They are developong their own personalities and I’m guessing there are more roos than hens. 5-7 are BYM. And yes, I know they are still really young to get an accurate gender. Two EE that I’m guessing both are male. Chick 1, an absolute turd to the others. Chick 2, chest...
