Advice for mixing old, and new chickens together

I have a small flock of 3 hens, 1 rooster. I put the two new pullets (raised from egg) that are 8 weeks old into a metal dog crate (basically all open) inside the coop for three days. Finally the third night I put the two in the coop on a lower roost and in the morning it seemed when they got...

Injury - Chick missing half of skull Need advice

Oh my goodness! My little pullet has a pecking injury on the back of her skull (I'm sure) as it was their first day outside of the kennel in the coop. I should have done it on a day i'd have been home. it's about an inch by a quarter of an inch and open. From what I'm reading it's best to...

    Depressed RI Red?

lol I was seriously worried about my neighbors, they LOVE it, isn't that weird? I actually had TWO of the five turn out to be roosters but one of them (along with the new chicken I got from a friend) got taken by a fox!! I will say having just one is far better than two

    Depressed RI Red?

I'm new to chickens too! I had one from the get go that was the leader and one that was really adventurous. I only had five, all Easter Eggers so I can tell them all apart and one was just always kind of off on their own and like you say, a loner. That one turned out to be a rooster-ha ha. I...

    Egg problem!

Are you feeding them layer feed or oyster shells?? Mine just started laying within the last week also and we have gone a day without getting one (I have three-one I expect will take a lot longer to being laying than the rest) but I think that's normal. Some chicken breeds also don't lay every...

When to let chicks out of the coop into the run?

This was posted last week :) Never know.... silly chickens. Have you checked for sings of a predator in the coop maybe? Snake even? Maybe something traumatic happened to them in there... Best of luck to your little ones!

When to let chicks out of the coop into the run?

How dark is it outside when you are trying to catch them?? Will they stay outside all night if you don't put them in? Mine go in pretty late. Did you put a light inside the coop like someone suggested?

When to let chicks out of the coop into the run?

I am new to chickens too but my chicks automatically knew to go in at dusk... I never had to put them in. I did close the door at night though because I would get paranoid. I have never had a problem with them not going in, I think somehow they just know to. Just put them inside the coop first...
