That looks like the bald elbow spots on my dog's legs which are caused by the way he lies on the floor. If they don't look sore, I would guess it is the same for your duck.
Hard to tell from pics. Are the feathers stuck down or missing? When I have had this, I used a soft tooth brush and warm water to get gunk off. It sometimes takes several treatments. Make sure to dry if off after.
One of a group of 18 barnyard mix chicks that hatched yesterday has an issue. When first hatched this red lump on top of its head was significantly larger. This pictures is at about 12 hours old. Now, at a day old the lump is smaller and soft. The chick is active, eating, drinking and vocal...
I'm in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I have recently been invaded by wild Eastern Cotton Tail Rabbits. They are living under my coops, within an old rock wall, and under trees in my wooded area. There is no evidence that they are actually getting into the coops or runs. No food or water is...
All of my critters, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, peacocks, cats, horses, and a dog get water that has been processed through a softener using salt. Never had any issues.
I have 30 guineas right now. Hatched last summer and my plan is to sell 20 of them soon. Most are females and the squawking is non-stop in the group. IMO this is what they do and nothing wrong with yours. I would suggest that you increase the size of your flock to 10 including some males.
I have the same conditions as Canadian Wind. My Muscovy ducks, chickens, guinea fowl, and peacocks all do alright in extreme cold temperatures. The important thing is that each groups has a coop that has deep bedding and provides protection from wind and snow.
Remember that some of the...
Like Canadian Wind, I haven't had any duck eggs since early fall. Same for peacocks and guinea fowl. Lucky the chickens are at least providing a few.
I stand outside the runs and tell every freeloader that it is a good thing I like them.
Every year it is exciting to find the first ones.
Wondering if this would work for you. Is it possible to attach a hose to the bottom edge on the pool. The hose could be buried for a distance to come up at a convenient place. I just hung the end of my hose on a branch or you could use some kind of stopper. You can use capillary action to...
I was able to integrate this years hatches with existing 1.5 year olds. I did it in groups of 4 or 5 young ones together. I provided lots of hiding places simply using cardboard boxes open at both ends and pieces of boards leaning against the side of the coop. I added perches in the coop so...
