Buff Orpington roo x any breed hen - what did you get?

Ok so these are no RiRs but the dad is my large BO rooster in my profile picture and here are First pic: one of the moms, Olive Eggers from CL + BCM and the rest of the pictures are the offspring, as you see they are all pretty much different colors but grow up with a BO fluffy butt/body. These...

    Several broody Cream Legbars

Thank you, not even mice have acsess to the coop, and I’m in Sweden so we don’t have snakes, all we have are fox and hawk but my girls are netted in in a very large shrubbed area. One of them is vicious though, no one dares come near her, including us (without gloves). She seems to really want...

    Several broody Cream Legbars

Haha that is such a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing; I have a few incubator hatchlings now, about 2 days old. I will try and introduce her to them in a controlled environment, thank you! So cute.

    Several broody Cream Legbars

I have three, to each other unrelated Cream Legbar hens, who have all gone broody within the last 3-4 weeks. They are terrible mothers and abandon the eggs after 1-2 weeks, but still - this is not a breed that should go broody? And all three, not even from the same genetics? Anyone had this...

    Information Overload + Analysis Paralysis

My birds are super healthy, thank you, they free range and have access to high protein layerfeed and garden compost whenever they want.

The feed I ferment is a mix of whole barley, crushed corn and wheat. They lay better and their eggs a superclean.

    Information Overload + Analysis Paralysis

Every day, a sccop per 8-10 chickens, as a complement to their dry feed and free ranging. Also treat w dry soldier larvae when I want them to do what I tell them… they are very easy to bribe.

    Information Overload + Analysis Paralysis

How fun! Things I’ve learned from when I got my first 5 chickens a few years ago is that - you always need more space than you think you do because chicken math is a real thing. Go big rather than go small will save you from having to build extensions and you will be keeping happier chickens...

    Cream Legbar Crosses..

Finnie, thank you! Chicken genetics is so interesting, I wish I had more knowledge. I have a gorgeous Buff O male whom I breed with Olive Eggers (from BCM + CL) and they produce the best birds, really cold hardy, calm and lay beautiful light green eggs in different shades. Here are some of the...

    Cream Legbar Crosses..

I am wondering this as well. Do they become sex linked or does the roo have to be the CLB for that to be possible?

    Mother of The Year!

Just wanted to bring you a sunshine story in the midst of all the sh*t that’s going on out there. I hatch mix chickens with my super handsome Buff Orpington rooster as the father, they turn out fantastic and they lay the most beautiful almond colored eggs, so three weeks ago I hatched out 7 baby...

Need experienced advice on how to deal with single digit temps in non-insulated coop

Sure, we use something called ”reinforced trapulin”, I’ll snap a few pictures of the setup today and post it here. As it is wind proof is keeps their own heat in the coop/run; every chicken produce about 10w. It’s not clear, but it’s called transparent as it is not solid white. Search for ”clear...
