chicks are kinda.. simple minded creatures. They definitely still need heat, and are just not connecting the dots right now. Keep doing it until they get it. Or you may need to change up your method of giving heat.
chickens are pretty destructive birds unfortunately, and there's a chance they will never stop pecking at it. I would switch it out for fabric on the outside of the crate if you have it there to contain the mess.
This is 100% a silkie. They are very hard to sex, but I'm seeing quite a bit of comb growth for 7 weeks (a roo's comb will be about 2-3x that big when mature) so you might have a cockerel on your hands.
