We currently have a 5 gallon bucket with openings in the bottom for the chickens to eat from. So most likely we are feeding rats also. I am looking into getting the treadle style feeder options. Have you used the brand called ratproofchickenfeeder?

I really like the deep straw method in the coop, turning it every few days and then taking some out into the run and the girls move that around over their dirt floor. Very minimal cost or smell.

What about rats? I’m pretty sure we’ve got rats now that spring is here and there are big holes around our skirted run, unti and out of our run :(

Hey, I’m just curious, if it’s OK that the gals sleep on two different roosts. I don’t know if they argue over who gets the upper & who gets the lower or if they just settle in, but they seem to just get up there… not really using the ramps and they don’t scoot over on the long roost that is...

Finally get back! It took a while to find this thread too! They are all sleeping in the new coop now, up in the roost, yay! The first night, I put them up on the roosts and covered the doorway so they couldn’t get out. The next day we removed the old coop that they had been sleeping “on top of”...

I have just finished our new “coop shed” (4 x 6) for our 4 hens who are now 7 months old. We moved their covered run to attach to the coop, all is secure & predator proof. The previous small coop they have been using (and roosting on top of and laying inside of) is still in the run, because...
