I think its a good idea, we do this for a few reasons. First to get everything warmed up. Then we use multiple thermometers, at least one that we can calibrate to check the temperature against what the controller is showing. Then we check that the humidity is good. We dont run ours all the time...

Right now everything is mixed together while we build more coops in our new place. But eventually we will separate out and breed Silver Laced Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, and a mixed genetics hardy and broodie specific flock.

Her brother hatched all black, her mom is black(blue shimmer or tan depending on lighting), and the father is a pretty typical...
We usually get about 75% of however many hens we have. At the moment we have 26 hens and are getting about 18 per day. A few are still young though and havent started laying yet.
