I am now in the “Retirement “ stage. I have 5 hens 4 are around 6 years old and the 5th is or near 12 years. She raised (with her sister) many day old chicks. She was not the favorite mama 🤣🤣. I’ve had chickens since 2009. They have been a lot of fun but also worry and work. I’m in So Oregon. My...

Chicken coop is very muddy! help please UPDATE

Do you put pine shavings over it? (the pea gravel) I have a dirt floor and when it rains as it is doing now in So Oregon The edges get wet and the bedding goes bad. Maybe this is my answer around the edges. Thanks for the idea.

    Hen not walking deydrated

Thank you for your help. I checked her out a little better. Her breathing is regular. Stronger than before. She does have an issue at her vent. Still "leaking". It seemed pretty firm in that area. She prefers laying on her side. I got some fluids in her for the night. I'll get her to...

    Hen not walking deydrated

My Black sexlink is not doing well. I think she is about 4 years old. As I was getting ready to leave for a few days I noticed that she was not as active. By the time I got home she was on the floor of the coop. Not doing well at all. Her waddles and comb were looking pretty bad, unable to...

    Garden yummies?

Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for a while. I know you all are very helpful with most things. I am putting my garden up for the winter. I know that tomato plants and green tomatoes are not good for them so I'm getting rid of all that first and covering the strawberry bed. Can they...

What do you do in the winter for water?

Thanks for the comments regarding the bucket and nipples. In my little coop with only 2 chickens in it I used a coffee cup heater and put a ceramic pot holder upside down on it then a plastic waterer on top of it. Has worked very well as long as I don't fill it to full as the top part will...

How to figure out which one is eating the eggs

Hi there, I have 17 hens. 5 are bantys the rest big girls. For the last while we have been losing at least one egg a day to an egg eater. It seems that they leave the little eggs alone. It also seems that it is in the same couple of nests. I try to clean out what ever they are on when I check...

Baby Possum. What can it do?

Thank you all, I have been consistently discouraging it from my yard. Not to say anything bad would not happen. If I see him I shine my strong flashlight in his eyes until he heads out of Dodge so to speak. Not to think that he doesn't come back afterward. It has been interesting the...
